Affordable + a lot of buses scheduled just outside the place + a lot of eating places available within 10 min walking distance + 12 min bus ride to MMU + separate study space available Staff: I had a lot of questions before moving here. So, I mailed them every time. Claudia answered my each question politely and with full explanation. When I reached here, I was introduced to each facility in detail don't know that person's name Moreover, I had a misunderstanding with one of the equipments. They sent someone within 4 mins and he guided me politely. even though it was a silly misunderstanding by my side
FYI I stayed in a newly refurbished flat. This review wouldn't be the same for the older, cheaper buildings. Pros: -By far the best part of Manchester Gardens was the maintenance. The maintenance would respond so quickly always by the next day, sometimes on the same day! and resolve problems no matter what. -The staff were very attentive, including reception and security. -The room I had was extremely spacious and modern looking. There was a lot of extra space. -The kitchen was also modern and had plenty of room for all the tenants. -There was no noise from other flats. -The gate at the front provided a ton of extra security and made me feel very safe. -Staff would arrange extra activities and give away free gifts check on Manchester Gardens Facebook page for updates on these, which was a nice little bonus of staying there. -The area is pretty convenient, with it being a 10 minute walk from Lidl and a 20 minute walk from Manchester Uni. -The area is very pretty, with a lot of trees, grass, seating space and a BBQ area. -The study and games rooms are very nice, with the study area being particularly quiet and comfortable. -Internet speed is very good, although there were a couple times when the service went down and took a couple days to be repaired one time during exam season. Cons: -The worst part was the bathroom. These aren't refurbished and have little ventilation, so there is constant mould on the walls and shower curtain. The bathroom is very small too. -Doing laundry is very expensive although Circuit laundry is used at almost all Uni and private accommodation, I believe they are the same price everywhere. -The only reason I'm not staying there next year is because of how pricey the rooms are, especially with the rent increase for this year. I'd only recommend living here if you can afford it. Having spoken to two of my friends who also lived here, they have said the same thing: that they would absolutely live here again if the rooms were more affordable. Manchester Gardens has been an amazing place to live at, particularly for the service, room quality and amenities. I will miss living here next year.
I lived there years ago. The location was great, right along major bus routes. The security staff was wonderful and the community was outstanding. The place however is not much more than a walk-in closet. The toilets were full of mold.
The one star I HAVE to give as I unfortunately can not give zero is for the spacious rooms. They are great and I am able to comfortably place my stuff where I want. In regards to everything else, I would definitely not recommend staying at this accommodation. A few months into living here I found out my extractor fan wasn’t working properly. I have then come to find out from maintenance that it has been like this from the start of the year which has caused a load of condensation on the bathroom CEILING and a mucky smell which spreads throughout my room. The refurbished rooms have not had their bathrooms refurbished and even though I’m paying £140 per week for 50 weeks, I have been given a mould collecting wet room for a bathroom. When I first moved in, my room was not unlocking so my lock had to be changed which meant the master key no longer worked for my bedroom door. I have come back to this accommodation after one month and forgotten my keys at home and have found out there is no spare key to get into my bedroom. This is a pain as I would’ve have expected there to be at least one other key for my bedroom like there is for every other room on site. Another thing I noticed in the hallway coming back after a month was a DEAD MOUSE. This absolutely horrified me as well as the staff member who came up to try and unlock my door for me. Our flat consisted of four girls and we regularly cleaned our rooms as well as the kitchen so this was a shock to us especially as we’ve all been gone for a while back to our permanent homes. I would’ve just expected a bit more for the price I have been paying.
I would highly recommend this accommodation! I like the way the rooms are set out and full of space, the security system is very good so I don’t have to worry about parcels or letters being mistaken, the staff are always so friendly and willing to help and if i ever have a problem in my room or kitchen, maintenance always have it solved within 24 hours of me reporting it. Honestly an overall good and safe place to live!
My sister moved into here for university and I was very happy with how the staff handled everything, especially the one called Sunny! The rooms are a good size and we had to ask maintenance to fix something and they came out same day! Sister is really happy also, thanks
My daughter stayed here in her first year. It's ok; better than the place I stayed in when I was at uni! Quite a step to the campus, but there are buses. Fairly reasonably priced, certainly in comparison to some we've seen.
I would personally advise anyone looking into staying here to try to find somewhere alternative to stay. Yes, the accommodation is close to the UoM and MMU campuses but that's where the positives end. Staff and contract workers come in and out of the flats multiple times a week unannounced. They send an email every couple months to inform you that 'essential' works will be taking place at any time in the next six weeks and from then on they just walk in and out of flats at their pleasure. They do not knock as they are supposed to and enter at any point in the day. It's incredibly invasive and there was little respect shown for anyone sleeping/working/living in the flats as they can often be incredibly noisy and disruptive, particularly contract workers. The office staff did not seem to particularly care about this, and were incredibly rude when this issue was brought up to them. Despite some of the flats being newly renovated, it is clear that it is done very cheaply and the bathrooms remain outdated. This isn't too much of an issue except for the plumbing which means that the showers sometimes take a while to kick in and do not have a lot of pressure. There's also an issue with the plumbing with the toilets. On top of this, the flats are incredibly cold in the winter as the buildings are very draughty and iQ have installed cost-saving heaters that only work in a boost function and are not sufficient to heat a room.
The rooms are really nice & spacious but the shower/wet room is disgusting! it's very small, the extractor fan stays on for hours making a loud noise, the floor often gets mouldy as well as the shower curtain which also sticks to your body constantly. I have requested for a new shower curtain multiple times and have just been notified that maintenance have "fixed" the issue but it's still riddled in mould. Some of the staff are extremely rude especially security which is disappointing when you PAY to live here and use the services just to be met with an attitude when requesting them. The younger reception staff are really nice as well as the maintenance staff though. The packaging system is a mess, no ID is requested when collecting packages meaning anyone can take your package and sometimes you don't get notified when one has arrived. It is currently exam season and we've had construction work happening from early in the mornings weekly since January which is really distracting, I have had workers walking into my flat with no mask on while coughing and basically shouting to each other and slamming doors. IQ said they're ensuring minimum disruption but nothing has been done to stop this. I also left my room for a month and when I came back there was urine on my toilet seat which wasn't there when I left and my flat mate told me workers were in and out of my room. I wouldn't recommend living here as the only good thing about it is the refurbished rooms - the non refurbished ones have mould issues.
Manchester gardens accommodation has been a great experience. The rooms are great and any issues are always dealt with quickly and by the best maintenance staff !! The reception staff are always helpful and try fix any problems you may have . A really nice place to live especially when the team running it are incredible and make the experience 10x better . Thanks IQ :
