Dear YHA Team,nnWe spent three days in the Lee Valley YHA hostel and were negatively surprised by the miserable conditions of the bathroom. There was a water leak in the sink pipe, which caused a little flooding. A professional came just to kindly turn off the water in the entire bathroom, leaving us without a functional bathroom! Despite these complaints there was no WiFi in the cabins and the food tasted a little bad. The biggest issue was that there only was one key card per room which was a really big problem, since this hostel was like a jail. You couldn’t go anywhere without a key card. Ironically, as I already mentioned, we only got one key card for 6 people. It’s a shame that this hostel calls itself a 4 star hostel, considering that our former 2 star hostel in Canterbury was overall better than this one.nIt was overall a bad experience, excluding the bathroom issue it would be more like a 2 star hostel.nnKind regardsnFabian Germany
Didn’t rate the rooms because we didn’t stay. My walking club and I dropped in for a cup of tea at the end of our muddy country walk. We were given a very warm welcome and served very quickly a very reasonably priced cup of tea. We would definitely come here for a drink again if it is at the end of another of our walks.
I stayed here this week. Abysmal. A broken heater was the least of it .The worst thing was the hole in my bedroom ceiling, through which water poured through from the shower in the room above. There were other cracks in the ceiling and damp patches too. YHA staff seem not to have noticed this. The manager of YHA Lee Valley was abysmal and rude when I raised the issue and refused to engage with me or answer any of my questions. A very rubbish, unprofessional and shoddy hostel with bad culture from management. Oh and the clock in reception was 10 minutes slow too! Management and staff were fine with that and didn't bother to reset the clock, eve when made aware it was 10 minutes slow. A very bad hostel. Thus far YHA HQ has not compensated me either and display an attitude similar to the management of the hostel itself. Another one of those shoddy companies in England likely to go out of business because of their low standards.
The hostel is clean and quiet. We enjoyed our stay. We forgot our book in the room and YHA stuff helped to send it to us. We are so happy to receive our book. The hostel is close to the country park and we have walked around in the park. The park is nice and peaceful.
Can't fault this truly wonderful Oasis on the edge of London, just 15 minutes to Stratford and 30 mins depending on route to the heart of London. Rooms can be great value if you book ahead, depending on the season. Lovely riverside walks if you have the time. The individual lodges offer great accommodation, each with a lounge/ kitchen. This is a great base from which to explore Cambridge by train as well as London. CHESHUNT railway station, a 2 min walk to the Hostel, is on the main line from Liverpool Street to Cambridge and on the local Overground network. There are direct connections with the Victoria Line at Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale for Underground journeys to the West End. Will be back... again and again.
