A really good value garden centre for all sorts of plants and household hardware. There are some other businesses on the same site, such as a blind shop, craft shop and aquatics centre. There is a lovely cafe on site too!
We visited on the 13April 2018, we only wanted to go to the Fish shop, then we decided to have coffee and lunch at the restaurant with my husband and two kids, we did spend £31 which I think wasn't worth it. The staff were not very friendly, all grumpy I did ask one of the staff to clean the table and floor for us but it took her 10-15mins as they were busy chatting. We were there for ages as our kids were playing in the soft play noone came to clear our plates even though we could see them chatting constantly. They need to change as word of mouth is going around, most of my friends are not impressed too and you will loose business. Won't be going back anytime soon.
Pros. This has soft play to keep the little ones occupied. Cons. We orders food and it arrived 50 mins later. Potatoes were undercooked, beans were cold. Pasta was tasty though. We then went to buy something from the shop but there was no one tending the tills. Shame as this place as the potential to be awesome.
We went to the Wyevale Garden Centre at Fair Oak today and bought tea for two. The jug with the milk in it looked at though it had been buried in the garden and under the rim a grey rough feeling substance which I scraped off with my nail. The tea pot was stained from top to bottom below the spout, the lid and the the rim were completely stained and the cups felt as though they had been pebble dashed and had a dull appearance and distinct brown staining where people had been drinking from them. Also a line around the inside of each cup marked the level of tea which had been poured by the previous users in this dubious establishment. I would think the cups had just been plonked in the sink and swished round a bit and then left on the side to dry. Disgusting they were. When I complained about the cups and asked the young man why they weren't properly cleaned in a dishwasher he said that they had been. When I pointed out to him that with a tissue it was possible to rub the brown stains and remove them, he said as he sauntered away that he doubted it. We decided not to drink the tea out of these unwholesome looking cups and returned it for our money back upon which point the Manageress was called. She was not old enough to be in charge of such a place and would certainly have been unable to instill any discipline into the surly waiting staff. There was no polite apology made by anyone. The couldn't care less attitude of the staff needed to be seen to be believed.
Wanted to go out for coffee with my mum but with a toddler, it can be a challenge to keep her occupied. I had heard of this garden centre with a soft play and thought it sounded perfect. My mum said she had previously been before, a year or so ago, and the service was awful, but we still decided to give it a go. It was busy but not too busy when we arrived in the restaurant so got served quickly. Choice of food wasnt great. Ordered a latte received a cappuccino, 2 cold drinksone a childs drink and 2 cakes. This came to £11.50!!!! She then asked if we wanted entry to soft play and added another £2.00 to the bill. I was shocked that it wasn't included in the already extortionate prices. The soft play was manic...too many kids for such a small space. Also some of the other kids were much older and were just running riot knocking other kids over and running up the slide. After 10 mins I took my child and left so she wouldn't get hurt. We won't be returning or recommending.
Well stocked garden centre but the disabled parking bay are far too small. I very rarely go there due to the parking bay sizes as I find it hard to get out of the car comfortably. Has a cafe but I have never used for me if I go there it is a quick in and out.
Only one member of staff actually facing the public in the restaurant by 3 in the afternoon. She was having to make milk shakes, including disappearing into the kitchen to get the ice cream out of the freezer, plus the hot drinks. No surprise that a 10 minute wait to purchase a simple cold drink is neither welcoming nor acceptable. Poor girl was as miserable as you would expect. I walked away without buying anything. A place to avoid.
Unhappy staff. Gave me and my husband an enormous sense of guilt for still being in the cafe at 4.20. Staff desperate to close and go home. Asked by staff to leave half finished coffees at 4.25 and leave the cafe area as it closes at 4.30. On paying at the till at the garden centre area more staff loudly moaning and asking "Is it 5.00 yet?" There's an immense unwelcome feeling when it gets close to closing time. Staff only concerned with closing doors dead on 5.00. I would definitely have left by 5.00 anyway. No need for grumpy insistence.
Really high quality coffee and tea, great cafe area and extensive selection in the shop.
Food, which was freshly prepared, was delicious and very good value for money. Shame that the lady who served it at our table behaved as if she wished she were anywhere else. The counter staff were welcoming, cheerful and helpful.
