Just been with friends to stay one night with dinner. Also had lunch in the bar day we arrived. What an enjoyable experience lovely friendly hotel made to feel very welcome by staff and locals. Food excellent drinks in the bar near an open fire. Everywhere spotlessly clean will definitely go again.Rooms: 4/5
Called in for a meal and drink, hadn't booked but we were very nicely accommodated. The meal was beautiful, very tasty fish pie and fish and chips. Excellent service, finished off in the beer garden with our drinks. Would definitely recommend.Service: 5/5

Food was absolutely gorgeous, both for evening meal and breakfast, the service was excellent. Room let this place down and could do with an update and upgrade, but for a quiet stay away and visiting York the following day, perfectly placed. Food & drinks: Food was superb as was service
Room was comfortable and tidy although the bathroom looked a little tired. Maybe a lick of paint. Bed was very comfortable so slept very well. Onsite restaurant was incredible. I would highly recommend the steak. Might seem pricey but worth every penny. Breakfast was really good too. Seemed that all food was locally sourced - seemed like butcher quality meats were used. Car park is round the back and has a charge point although it hasn't been updated to a pulse one yet. If you think you will need it, I recommend you call ahead.
Very nice hotel in Yorkshire, fairly remote , rooms are clean and comfortable, WiFi is sketchy, no mob signal so a real little gem if you want chill and have a quiet time. We had roast beef , Yorkshire pud plus veg and roasties , excellent meal the beef was suberb. Breakfast was also of a high standard. The staff are friendly and very helpful. There's a lovely garden to taken your drink out too , Very reasonably priced. Will definitely go again .
Good points were the service and food. Unfortunately they were seriously overshadowed by the poor accommodation. The bedroom was tired looking with windows which needed a good wash and serious work on the woodwork. The bathroom was a disgrace. Grouting between the floor tiles looked like cement and was badly degraded in places; toilet roll holder and towel rail were hanging off the wall; skirting was fitted haphazardly; bath panel looked as though it had originally been door panels and was untidyly fitted. Met other guests who had stayed more than once and I suspect their rooms were not as shabby as ours.
Very nice hotel. Charming, actually. Friendly, relaxed and professional staff couldn't do enough for us during our stay. Food was fabulous, especially the pies - mentioned by other reviewers. Good wine list. But it is not an American chain hotel where the rooms are ripped out and rebuilt every year or so, and it is all the better for it.
Great place to eat or have a beer. Always a warm welcome.
