A beautiful cathedral. A peaceful place in the middle of a busy city. Although we have visited before we realised that there was more to see. We hadn't been into the crypt before and was surprised by just what a large space it is. We also really liked the etched windows in the Cloisters. The bookshop is well worth a visit.
Such a beautiful cathedral and lots of art carving, lots to see and wonder around. The crypt was open downstairs. There is a lovely cafe with food made to order which was lovely and fresh.nYou have to see it to believe it. The Cathedral is for wheelchair users also, but not in some parts of the building like the crypt as it up and down stairs. There are ramps in some parts for access.nWould definitely recommend a visit.
An excellent visit to the cathedral today. We paid for the guided tour which is well worth the money. If you just wander about you miss so much. Great architecture and oozing with history. The coffee shop is very small and fills up at lunch time.
So much history in a beautiful setting. Tombs of King John Richards brother and Magna Carta, Stanley Balwin, Elgar amongst many others. The original church dates to 680AD with 3 major iterations since. Amazing history and beautiful cathedral. Admission by donation, make it generous, it is worth it to preserve our history!
Wow what an incredible place to visit! We visited for the first time today and spent an hour and a half looking around. There was so much to see like King John’s tomb, the Norman crypt underneath the Cathedral, the courtyard and plenty of interactive screens showing the history of the site along with the city of Worcester itself. One of the wonderful volunteers David came to talk to us whilst we were looking at King Johns tomb and he gave us so much information like how he has 2 saints by his head in hopes it would get him into heaven, the holes dotted around the sculpture would have had jewels in them originally but have been stolen over the 800 years that it has sat there and how the tomb was originally on the floor. David had all the time in the world to talk to us and clearly has a huge passion for the cathedral. There was a wonderful art exhibition on display in the chapter room showing incredible artwork by local students, a cafe, gift shop and we were also treated to some wonderful musicians playing in the main building. The cathedral is free to enter however donations are appreciated and we were happy to donate. I highly recommend visiting Worcester Cathedral, it really is a hidden gem and the city is lovely to walk around too.
