Located on the Grand Union Canal, Woodys is an alternative oasis serving high quality vegetarian food and plenty of gluten free and vegan options.

Story

Woodys Cafe offers a wide range of delicious, vegetarian food - all prepared and cooked in our kitchen. Everyday we have a range of seasonal specials on our blackboards and a great selection of pizzas, crepes and salads on our main menu, including a number of vegan and gluten free option.

Woodys' electricity is renewable and harmonised, our water is filtered, our waste is recycled and we support a number of local businesses. So far we have managed to plant, with the support of our customers,126 trees with the charity 'Trees for Life'.

I really want to like this place and have gone several times, wanting to love it. Great location by the water, great layout and look, food tastes good, staff friendly, but sometimes it just all goes wrong. Take today. Three of us, three garlic breads ordered - only two turn up, late. After several mins ask for the third. Apology, and it turns up a few mins later with an extra slice to compensate. Fair enough! No worries. Three sweet potato, cauliflower, pea and almond curries (a special) due next. (We just happened to choose virtually the same this time ok). Two turn up. Stingy on the amount of curry, £13.50 for that, a dome of rice, raita on one and ok on the other a tomato/onion thing as a vegan alternative to raita (though why not vegan raita). That's it. No chutney, garnish or poppadom. Stingy watery-looking curry. Then we realise the 2 curries have tofu in - and none of the ingredients above from the blackboard. We gently highlight the number, curry identity and curry quantity points. It turns out that we have the last two (stretched!) curries (Thai) that were the previous special - 'the manager' had written the new one up - it seems too early?!? One of the most annoying things for me was that one (apologetic, trying to help) member of staff twice made it clear it was not her fault but that of unspecified others. Who cares? We were not talking blame, just politely, quietly clearly saying what we wanted. You are one organisation, just sort it out! Checked they still understood we needed 3 curries - 2 vegan, 1 veggie. So hungry, we waited.... And finally..... ...two curries turned up. Again one vegan one veggie. After a couple more minutes we exasperatedly asked for the third, which was not on its way. It came much later with extra curry after others had finished. This is not the first time - last December it all went wrong but at least then it had been packed and busy, unlike today. Sort it out Woody's if you want us to ever return. There were reasons why we really wanted this meal to be special - and that was spoilt.

Nice position beside the canal. Great al fresco dining. Tasty vegetarian fayre even for a meat palate. Fab crepes. Relaxed atmosphere.

The breakfast pancakes were pretty great! It's not obvious on the menu that most of what you can order has a vegan alternative - so make sure you ask the staff, they're super nice about making things to suit you exactly. Would definitely return!
