Story

I’m Simonne Gnessen, co-author of Sheconomics and Money Coach & Financial Life Planner at Wise Monkey Financial Coaching. I help clients build a better relationship with money and feel calmer, more in control and confident about their finances.

I’m not a traditional financial adviser and I don’t sell financial products or receive any commission or payment from third parties. But I do have financial expertise and help clients find practical solutions to any money challenge or question, providing ongoing guidance and support.

I also help them understand, and take control of, the unconscious way they behave with money so that there’s nothing blocking the life they most want to create.

Simonne offers so much more than financial coaching. Very quickly literally within our first session, she helped me identify some root causes of behavioural patterns I’ve had my whole life. She is incredibly supportive and nurturing, never judgmental, and I trust her implicitly. Her coaching style is practical and holistic, and she balances both perfectly. I have had lots of eureka moments in our sessions over the last 6 months and I have implemented practical skills that I didn’t believe I was capable of. This is by far the best gift I have every given myself and worth every penny.

I have been working with Simonne for seven years.  My work with her has been quietly life changing.  I was in a difficult financial position when I started working with Simonne, I’d lost my job and fallen off the ‘housing ladder’.  More than that I was in despair and a lot of fear.  Simonne is encouraging, very compassionate, imaginative and practical.  Money is never just about money.  It is about our relationship with money and who we are around money and what we believe about money and what we believe about ourselves.  Simonne supported me to do all the practical stuff that I was so resistant to, making spreadsheets, looking at my bank statements, and pension pots.  Simonne’s work however goes way beyond the practical, the numbers; we did some very deep work about my beliefs about money and about myself.  Instead of feeling scared about money, I became curious.  I began to feel able.  I began engaging with money in far more useful ways.  On a practical note, I am a homeowner again and I am much more financially secure than I was.  Prior to working with Simonne, I actually had a background in providing debt advice for a major national charity.  I knew all about how to deal with the enforcement of debt – court action, bailiffs, charging orders, repossessions -  no problem!  I did not however know how to trust that I could have enough, that I could manage my money and more than that enjoy engaging with my finances. Now I do. I am incredibly grateful that a friend recommended Simonne to me and of course to Simonne who is an exceptional coach.  I am not a high earner, I don't come from money.  This coaching is not cheap.  It was way worth every penny.

Simonne’s 20+ years of financial coaching experience really showed every time we worked together. Under her thoughtful care and through her dedication to listening deeply I have made great insights into not only my complicated relationship with spending and saving money, but also other areas of my life where I felt stuck it’s amazing how often these were linked. Her commitment to continually developing her own skills means that Simonne is able to draw from a wide range of tools. I was referred to Simonne by my lawyer before a divorce, when I was worried how I would survive on my own. She helped me understand my future goals, then used them as she built different budget scenarios on spreadsheets which took the confusion away, as I now have a concrete and detailed understanding of my options and what the tax implications for each choice would be. Working with her built my confidence that I can manage all my affairs competently. During divorce mediation my work with Simonne helped me be calm and confident about my financial rights under law. Simonne has also been a sounding board as I sought out the best way of investing my money towards building a good retirement income.

I have trained with Simonne and her carefully curated colleagues as part of her program to train others to be financial coaches. Simonne has a quiet warmth and authority and ran our training with such skill and attention to detail that I quickly felt inspired and safe to do much more challenging work than I imagined myself capable of.  She is a truly gifted teacher and her passion for her work is infectious. I thoroughly recommend the training program.

Working with Simonne has been transformational. I’ve always viewed myself as being terrible with money - or at least terrible saving it and really good at spending it. I’ve had ‘'get some savings in the bank’ as an annual goal for as long as I can remember but it never happened - despite having a successful career, no matter my salary, there’s nothing in the bank to show for it.  Working with Simonne changed both my attitude and behavior towards money. Within just a few months I went from being completely unaware and indifferent to spending until the money  ran out to being totally informed, aware and engaged. For the first time ever I began to decide what I spent and importantly didn’t spend money on - this v quickly meant I was actually saving money and paying off credit card debt  - without feeling like I was missing out on anything.  My changed perspective and relationship towards money also made me aware that it was rooted in how I viewed and lived life - so it’s driven some really positive changes more broadly and, with Simonne's coaching, has helped me realise what it is I really value and care about in life. Simonne is our financial saviour and our dream life coach. I've had coaching sessions with Simonne on a monthly basis for over 10 years! since the aftermath of the financial crash of 2008. Simonne and I have been working together for over a year now and I have found the sessions incredibly helpful. What started off primarily as financial coaching has evolved into an all round life coaching. I have learnt some amazing techniques for dealing with my time management, organisation, and budgeting. Simonne always has a wealth of information and recommendations to take away from any session.  She has also equipped me with some really helpful tools such as a amazing spreadsheet designed to manage my funds. I’m not very financially literate so having something simple and effective was crucial, and that’s what Simonne has provided.  Highly recommended!

Simonne is a rare find - a holistic financial coach, who can crunch numbers with you, while also getting under the hood and doing deep work. She's helping me change my relationship with money, and in effect, my relationship with my ability to build my own life. Calm, non-judgmental and supportive of where her clients want to go in life.
