A must-see for anyone who appreciates the decorative arts, for anyone looking for people who dared to live their dreams and change the state of things and confront the standard. William Morris was all this and much more. The visit is inspiring, I was particularly touched that he believed in his wife and encouraged her to go further at a time when women were appendages to their husbands and female education was not considered necessary or useful. What's more, he believed in other women and provided trades so that they could be more autonomous. After visiting the gallery, I came to understand why there are so many antique shops in the neighbourhood and why Morris' prints can be found in many local businesses. There's a market that sells post-walk treats and a souvenir shop for all budgets. Entry to the permanent exhibition is free and the staff are friendly and helpful.
A great way to dip into the creative world behind the legend known as William Morris. The fact this was his home adds another layer of sparkle. It’s not a huge gallery and just enough information and detail to better understand his background and iconic work/design. I first visited 40 years ago and WM is part of my DNA! Lovely cafe on site and grounds to the rear. A car park too with a lovely mural a shame a bike shed blocks some of his beard!
Free museum chronicling the life and timeschildhood, trade/business partnerships and later socialist proclivities of William Morris. Good selection of original works, informative audiovisual displays some interactive and adjoining cafe and gift shop , set within the grounds of Lloyd Park, Walthamstow. My only comment would be that some of the rooms were extremely dimly lit and so the display text was barely legible. Perhaps there could be more lights on the display text , if light damage to the original works is the issue?
I really enjoyed this gallery - it takes about an hour+, and has a bunch of interactive activities for children. William Morris is really interesting to learn about, and the influence of him and his companions are visible elsewhere in England - highly recommended if you're in the area!
Lovely little gallery, lots of interesting stuff to see, including many Edward Burne-Jones paintings. Unfortunately some interactive elements are broken or overused in the work shop room. Also there’s not a room to fully demonstrate all patterns he designed. But in general it is a nice place to explore, and picnic in the back garden.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

The William Morris Gallery offers many Mingei exhibitions, where you can learn about the discovery of Japanese folk crafts. The exhibition runs from 23 March to 22 September 2024. I was pleasantly surprised to find videos with Japanese subtitles. The gallery also features beautiful Ainu crafts and pictures by Katsushika Hokusai. The staff at the shop were so friendly, and everything was so lovely and high quality that it took me a long time to decide what to buy. It was a wonderful time. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Japanese art and culture.
A beautiful museum that is free to get in and sometimes has a free exhibition on. It has a lovely cafe to eat if you feel peckish, toilets, a souvenir shop and a lovely park. It is well worth the visit and the museum is a reasonable size. Also staff are friendly and always smiling and if you are not shore where to take the kids over the holiday i would recommend it.
Nice stuff to see inside, handy activities for kids in there like drawing and creating your own interpretation of things, also a trivia. Although not much to see for a whole day out. The gift shop had a lot of nice patterns, prints, homeware with the artists' designs at fair prices. The outside park is nice to sit in after though and it's right next to the house. Lots of nice places to eat nearby too, would recommend going out with friends here for a calm and chill spring day. However it does close quite early I'd say.
A lovely small museum set in a large park with one cafe in house and another nearby at the kids playground. Current Mingei exhibition although small is a rare chance to see work not often seen together in the UK, as well as to purchase work by some contemporary Japanese craftspeople. Beautiful setting for the William Morris pieces too, which have been put together in a contemporary display.
