Went here with my partner for dinner on a Tuesday evening, it was fairly quiet in the restaurant and we were served quickly, we had the bread sharing platter to start and the kangaroo steak and black pudding stuffed steaks for mains, They were both presented very well and tasted very nice! It was great to have a choice of unusual meats kangaroo, wild boar etc.. on the menu. I would definitely recommend and will be returning myself. The only bad points I could make and the reason for missing a star was the staff were slow and it took ages to get the bill.
It's a nice enough place to stay, however the rooms are right next to the bar so we could hear the music until the bar closed. If you bring a set of headphones you won't have any issue. Once the music stopped it was OK, the beds were comfy and room was spacious. The breakfast window was a bit small and quite early, 7AM till 9AM but the food was great and plentiful. The checkout was quite early too at 10AM.There's plenty of parking and a nice play area for the kids in the beer garden. The White Lion is right opposite Yate shopping precinct which is really handy.
From a customer service point of view this is most likely the worst establishment I have ever been in, walked in waited 10 minutes to seated, which wasn’t to much of a problem, then asked waitress for drinks their response was I’m to busy, at this point i wanted to speak to a manager about the service in the establishment, managers first response is “have you booked” my response no your restaurant is empty and I just want to give you some feedback on the customer service. End result management not interested. Poor poor service
This place has been turned around since it was taken over by Hollie and her team. It is just a lovely place to be now, with a warm and friendly atmosphere, great decor, and clean and smart rooms. The staff are always friendly and up for a laugh, and the food is spot on - what more could you want from a local? :
The food was fantastic, and great value especially as it a groupon deal. But they do a steak night for the same price as the groupon deal so I'll definitely be back for that! The service was fantastic also. The only negative point was the lack of ambience, atmosphere and homliness- it's ideal for a carvery which they do but not very cosy for general dining.
Carvery was good although no vegetarian option which I've never had before so no good if you don't eat meat. Staff were friendly but it's all a bit regemented, we weren't allowed to get a drink at the bar because it would ruin the system.
Really good carvery! Excellent value for money, delicious! Broad range of vegetables and very generous portion of meat. Probably one of the best we've had. We'll be back!
Staff were lovely but the carvery wasn't that great. The beef was too rare and chewy and the turkey was dry. Nice selection of vegetables to go with the meat though and the gravy was superb.
White lion black rock steak... Novel idea ... depends on the deal you get via groupon or the 2 for £20 but ... the piece of steak it self nice .. not seasoned so fairly bland and cooking on a black rock although Novel its not great.. they would benefit 100% cooking the steak to order and seasoning it. Friendly staff. For what we paid it was ok but still disappointing if we'd of paid full price £18 oh Hell no... over priced . If the steak was cooked and seasoned we would go back.. but sorry to say we wont be going there again. Not when the New inn on a Tuesday have 2 for £18 and you'll have trouble beating that for a good steak.shame.
WWet here for my wife's birthday last night. What a change. Food was fantastic, selection although small was very high end and not what you would expect in a town pub. I had the escargot and blue shark. While my partner had the prawns and a sirloin. All were dispatched from the kitchen promptly and we're excellent, although to my preference the chips were over cooked only criticism I could give. A great night was had by all.
