Story

Weston General Hospital is an NHS district general hospital in the town of Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, England operated by Weston Area Health NHS Trust. The hospital also has a 12 bed private unit, The Waterside Suite, wholly owned by the hospital trust, with profits being re-invested into the main hospital. The Trust announced in 2011 that it was not viable in its present form. Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust had submitted a bid to take it over, however this was rejected in October 2015 by the NHS Trust Development Authority.PerformanceThe Healthcare Commission, an independent body which promotes and drives quality healthcare in the United Kingdom, has inspected Weston General Hospital and published its findings. From the start of my cancer diagnosis over a year ago my care has been nothing short of excellent at Weston Hospital. The colorectal team are wonderful as are all the staff from receptionists, radiographers, nurses, health care assistants, Drs and consultants. I've had two major surgeries here and wards are lovely. I have been to many hospitals this past year for different scans and Weston will always be my favourite and preferred choice. The great design of this hospital and space really helps if you're anxious too, and they have a car park with actual spaces. Very very lucky to have Weston as my local hospital.
Nov 2021 visited A&E with my daughter today and found it to be a very big disappointment. The staff at the reception were not engaged in what was going on outside their office. They spent more time on the phone, computer and chatting rather than acknowledging anyone in the queue. This was distressing to see, as there were many people scared and in pain just being ignored. I know it's their job and they see it day in and out but the patient should be priority. Once checked in you couldn't wait with your loved ones covid this is understandable, however no one kept the families updated. I was in the foyer for 4 hours waiting for any update. When my daughter was finally released she was still in pain, had been waiting for over an hour for a prescription which she had to get in the end and felt she had not been listened to or helped in any way. She was just sat in a chair, and told to wait for results, then when she was asked what was her pain level in which she replied 8 they didn't investigate further, just sent her on her way. Sadly I cannot recommend our A&E. June 2021 Always found weston general hospital professional and efficient. Good staff that are happy to help. Visited neurology and physiotherapy recently and found them both very helpful and understanding. Feels a bit old and dated now but I'm sure work is ongoing to resolve this. Parking is 1.80 for an hour so lots try to street park which unfortunately blocks up village.
3 entries to A&E this year and each has been handled in a friendly and efficient manor. Cannot fault the staff, yes there is a shortage but that's the same at most hospitals, but the ones on duty couldn't do enough. If a visit to the hospital can be considered as such, then it was an excellent experience!
I had a hip replacement 15 years ago and was called for a routine review and blood test last month. The appointment was completed bang on time, the staff were super, and I left very impressed. I received a letter a couple of weeks later telling me to expect a phone call at 13.30 today and sure enough, the doctor called me at 13.32 and gave me great feedback. I have had a few interactions with this hospital for bone breaks and kidney stones over the years and I have to say, all have been really good and reassuring.
Admitted 10th August for right breast mastectomy with partial node at 12 noon. Went down before 1.00pm and settled back at home before 7.00pm same day. Everything explained the most wonderful aftercare with no pain. Wait for two weeks for results that all clear. Not frightened or worried at any point. Reassured by Mr Gallegos and Jim Cook and team everything went smoothly.
I was in hospital this Monday for a procedure and have nothing but praise for the staff. Everyone was lovely and treated me with the greatest respect. I would like to thank the charge nurse on Knightstone ward and the nurse in the Anaesthetist room who held my hand and totally relaxed me before I was put under. What would we do without the NHS.
I’ve had the time of my life working there as a junior doctor. Friendly colleagues, friendly patients. Will miss you all!!
Got myself to hospital on Monday afternoon with inability to think straight or get more than a few words out coherently. There was a long wait but I got in line. There was someone triaging the queue for urgent cases. The nurse questioning me was excellent and recognised the signs of stroke, hurried me to the desk and then to the clinical triage nurse herself. Was rushed into clinic and had CT within 20 mins of presenting. I was given drugs and put under observation overnight and for the next day. turned out I had a TIA and gained some normality within 5-6 hours lucky me but I wanted to say that after all of the bad press that Weston Hospital has had, they were excellent. Every single one of the staff both nursing and auxiliary were efficient, helpful, cheerful and friendly.
Wards short staffed. No plumbing sorted quickly for shower blocked drains. No TVs working in bays. Patients just spend all day watching other patients dying infant of them all alone. Thinking am I next. Wards badly organised No real routine .
Went in this morning and got seen within 20mins of arriving. All the staff were absolutely amazing from reception booking in to the doctor who assessed me. Thank you for a great fast smooth service.
