Story

Warwick Hospital on Lakin Road in the northwest of Warwick, Warwickshire, England is run by South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust.HistoryThe modern history of the hospital is linked closely with that of the town's poorhouse, as was that of many European hospitals. The first hospital on the Union Road (now Lakin Road) site was built in 1848 next to the poorhouse. It was extended in 1857 and 1876 with a chapel and mortuary following in 1883. In 1903 a new hospital was built and in 1930 the poorhouse became part of the hospital too. Parts of the current hospital date from 1903. The most recent major redevelopments include a re-vamp of the accident and emergency department in 2001, a new outpatients department in 2005 and a birthing pool in 2007.The hospital now has a dedicated cancer unit that caters for the local population. Chemotherapy is carried out in the Aylesford Unit on-site, enabling patients to have treatment closer to home rather than travelling to University Hospital in Coventry.

Had a really good experience at Warwick Hospital A&E. Although waiting times were expectedly long, they weren't excessive. The staff were all extremely pleasant and efficient at what they did, checking on patients in the waiting room at regular intervals.nThe star was Vanessa at admissions who went well above the scope of her role showing empathy for all those that came in and even consoling those that were vulnerable or in tears. She deserves a medal for the way she conducted herself throughout the early hours of the morning.nAll round, considering the circumstances, it was as pleasant as I could have hoped for.
I have always had excellent service at Warwick Hospital and I’ve had to visit a few times for various medical reasons.nStaff are helpful / caring considering they are SO busy and generally understaffednI moved from Worcestershire 3 years ago which is absolutely AWFUL so believe me you are much better off being looked after in the Warwickshire system than there. Thank you for everything so far I am very grateful.
I'd like to say a huge thank you to midwife Ginny, who was so calm and helpful in reassuring me when I need to attend Warwick Maternity Unit unexpectedly at the end of my second trimester August 2024. She could have just done the bare minimum checks or brushed off my concerns but she went out of her way to measure baby, check heartbeat, ask about my stress levels etc etc. when I was experiencing RFM.nnShe gave me some great, factual advise and wrote down very informative and clear notes for my usual care team we we're in Warwickshire temporarily.nnI still use her advise now if I'm feeling anxious to best support me and baby in our final trimester. Thank you Ginny!!
Husband was taken in with chest pains at 7pm by ambulance. Seen to quickly then I was made to wait in the waiting room with no updates from staff until 12.30pm. thankfully it wasn't critical but the serviceand communication was terrible, I was told it'll be fine - not the update I needed. nurses calling names in the waiting room with no clue as to who was where/ people not there. Absolute Chaos.
I've had a few appointments at the Helen Clarke suite. The nurses and doctors are lovely and cannot thank them enough for all they do. The receptionists on the other hand, not all but the 2 I have had contact with via the phone or booking in in person need. I cannot go as far to say rude but very close to it. They make you feel like you are putting them out of there way. Please remember none of us patients want to be there in the first place let alone be spoken to in such a blunt manner. Booking us in shouldn't cause you to have an attitude problem
