Sadly lots of half empty shelves. Two items I shop in Waitrose for, not in stock. Please start to re-order the family size Shepherds Pie. Some of us like traditional English meals on a cold winters evening.

I am a regular customer of Waitrose (Ramsgate) and usually shop there 2 or 3 times per week. When visiting the store I always make time for a coffee and light lunch or snack at the cafe. The person who usually runs the cafe is a very pleasant, friendly blonde lady. No matter how busy she is she always has a lovely smile and a friendly word for customers. However, yesterday (4th January) there was a sour-faced, woman behind the counter who was very rude to me. She was rude, aggressive, confrontational, argumentative and thoroughly nasty. She was not busy (not that being busy would be an excuse) as I was her only customer. She became nasty when I made a polite request for a table to be cleared so that I could put the food down on a table in order to eat it. Her belligerent attitude really spoilt what is normally an enjoyable experience. Having been on the receiving end of her sharp tongue I completely lost my appetite. The food she served was undercooked and the coffee was cold. I mentioned my experience to another staff member who told me that this woman (Layla) had been rude to a number of other customers. Apparently, she is a university student working there during her holidays. Obviously not blessed with intelligence if she cannot see how her lack of good manners reflects on her colleagues and her employer. Usually, shopping at Waitrose is a positive experience, as the staff are mostly friendly and helpful. This woman obviously needs extensive training in customer relations. Through her rudeness she is letting down not only herself, but also her colleagues who do try to provide good service. It is almost always the case that the tables in the cafe need to be cleared and wiped. During busy times I have offered to clear and wipe the table where I intended to sit. Because the lady who usually works there is so nice, its possible to overlook such problems. However, outright rudeness will discourage customers from using the cafe. Aldi may not be considered as upmarket as Waitrose likes to project itself as being, but I have never encountered a rude shop assistant at Aldi. The often Eastern European assistants at Aldi could teach this woman a thing or two about good manners.
