Shelves seemed quite threadbare and lacking a lot of basics. Looking at older reviews this seems to be a fairly regular occurrence.
Waitrose Ramsgate is my local shop as just across the road. We continually pop in and out for bits. The installation of the NO CASH TILLS are appalling!! One of your assets is your staff. Why try replacing them for tills people do not want. Over the past two weeks, I’ve spent absolutely ages standing in a queue to pay for bread & milk, where I just grabbed a note & not my purse. One afternoon there were 7 people queued at one till. The lady at the front was very elderly and had a shopping trolley full of shopping. Whilst 3 members of your staff just stood by, not making eye contact with the queue. There was ONE person using the NO CASH till with 3 staff whilst a huge queue built up. It took the people in the queue to help this poor lady unpack her trolley & help her pack her belongings. Her shopping was over £109, which she paid cash!!! Knowing that Ramsgate has a high number of retired residents who do not have smart phones etc. They save their shopping money in cash. Why would you do that???? Your till ladies provide a service beyond their job role. Over the 2 years I’ve witnessed kindness, consideration and a friendly face. Some people are alone. Yesterday I found myself back in queue as I forgot my mobile. Stood in queue & got talking to a lady of 87. She told me she waits in queue so she could say good morning to the lady on the till. To allow 3 staff with sod all to do, watch this queue was beyond a joke. Your manager must know the store gets busy at certain times. So why not provide 2 tills open?? It seems it is just another attempt to get rid of cash. Which does not make sense considering your main customer base is retired or appear to be! and prefer to use cash. I for one will never shop with you again if you make this store cashless! You should concentrate on making your store as accessible to everybody!!
As a regular customer living less than 75 yards from the Waitrose Ramsgate store I often only shop there purely for convienience, unfortunately on a recent visit with 1 of my workers, getting some basics, milk, bread, chocolate, wine and beer, upon approaching the till, the cashier, whom I sort of know personally, as I used to give his twin brother some casual work, refused to sell the wine and beer to me, as he wanted age ID from my worker, who was carrying the basket for me, and is 25 yrs old, and has more facial hair than I could grow in 1 month, and wearing my work livery. Even though I clearly stated multiple times that I was purchasing all of the shopping on my card anyway, and even my worker offering a picture of his drivers license on his phone, he still refused to sell me the wine or beer. I've never seen him on the tills before, and I believe his reason was more personally based than genuine. I walked out, refusing to take any of the groceries.nI found actually the service station just up the street was cheaper anyway. I won't be going to Waitrose much, if ever in future, if this is the pedantic type of staff they allow.
This review conserns the toilet which was quite dirty. For a shop where quality seems to be the focus and there are some overpriced items but overall ok, i dont feel like an appreciated customer having to use that restroom.
Love this small waitrose everything you want in one shop. Loads of delicious ready meals to choose from always Quality food. Ideal for holiday makers.
