Village Vet - Hampstead

About

The Hampstead practice has been a veterinary clinic since the 1920’s, offering over 80 years of service to the community.

Story

The practice is fully computerised and exceptionally well equipped across 4 floors with consulting rooms, operating theatre, hospital wards, full laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and an intensive care unit. All this means that we can do everything to help your pet under one roof. Along with our primary care clinic the Hampstead practice also receives internal and external medical and surgical referrals and serves as the 24-hour emergency clinic for many North London vet practices. We are even happy to see clients throughout the night for non-emergency cases.

After another vets lost our trust with our poorly cat. We came to Village vets. Time was taken to understand our concerns. We were treated with kindness and compassion. I will never look back. We have used Village vets before for out of hours services but this is the only vets I will come to now day or night.
Clean mean money making machine. Have been going here for years and it has only gotten worse. It is amazing they still open the door for free. Receptionists not very knowledgeable, usually too busy to talk to you anyway as they multitask a a shop, a busy phone line, a waiting room and internal affairs. They basically look at you and ask you if you want to see the vet or not, even if you are unsure if you should. Vets are okay - but you never see the same vet twice. They offer some sort of animal club where you pay and they fail to deliver you what is promised. Like a free nurse consultation: there is no such thing. The nurses are never available. Or they are short staffed. Maybe in a few weeks. Have recently been treated without respect while trying to make the difficult decision to let my cat go. They could not really give me any sort of diagnosis or prognosis - it was all a very vague story. The decision had to be made based on cost. They were very supportive for me to make this ‘unselfish’ decision. And priced me up within minutes. Did I mention prices? This is the kind of practice the government should regulate. If they could charge the air you breathe there they would. I am not going back here. Which is a shame as I live just around the corner.
Village Vet was a pleasant surprise from what I was usually used to at another vet place. I was having an issue with my male cat not urinating properly, and when I called my initial vet place, they said they'd be able to see me in 4-6 days. A couple google searches showcased the symptom my cat had was potentially fatal, so once I called Village Vet, around 10:20am, they were able to double slot me an appointment at 11:00am on the same day. The senior veterinary, Alison, was amazing to work with and she calmed my nerves about my cat, explained potential reasons and solutions of my issue, taught me other things about acclimating my cat with another adopted kitten and how to do that, helping cut my cats nails, explained all medicine exactly to the level of how it tastes like she said she doesn't know by personal experience. Overall an amazing vet and so happy I've found it after 2 years of travelling an hour or so to another vet, and having to wait days for something. This is definitely a place I recommend and I do think its just under 4 star rating is too low for the treatment and care I and my cat received!
I have used Village Vet Hampstead for over 40 years and have watched it grow from extremely humble beginnings to the state of the art, multi string of practices of excellence, that it is today. The brainchild of founder, Dr Brendan Robinson, Village Vet prides itself as 'special vets for special pets' and this is about as near to the truth as it gets. This is care and expertise of the highest quality with many leading veterinary skills and qualifications in-house. This practice is unique in as much as it can boast a Tier 3 accredited emergency hospital to which referrals come from across the capital and beyond. I always judge as I find and I can honestly assure anyone that my experience at Village Vet has been nothing but comforting, inspiring, and constantly reassuring. This is a warm and friendly place at the most personal of levels. You are seen here by people who genuinely care. They will stand by you and support you at the darkest of times and they will bring back the light for you until you are healed. Needless to say, Village Vet is indeed the vets your pet would choose.
Had a great experience with the clinic at first, - we brought in a stray that was traumatised and pregnant to the clinic, and she received I presume great care, - and I expressed my sincere interest in rehoming this cat immediately as we brought her in - because she was coming into our backyard quite often, and came to us with her wound because I think she thought we could help her. She stayed there for some time, the clinic called me once to say that the cat was fine and gave birth, - and I expressed my wish to adopt the cat once again. After weeks of no communication from the clinic, I started calling and writing I think every other week , and received either no information or a request to write another email or fill in an adoption form. I filled in a form on May, 3, and June, 3, today, i received an info that I am apparently not a good candidate to adopt the cat, since the cat will be better in other place, where there are no other cats I have one myself. This is devastating, especially given the fact the cat came to us for help in the first place, and we know her, and care about her, and given the time I spent to contact the clinic and receive any info on the cat. Beware of this clinic if you bring in a stray you want to adopt, they might give the cat to someone else.
My only interaction with them was when my son was hospitilised. He was 17 years old. We had to put him to sleep. The whole practice was amazing. They were so sentitive, so caring. They channelled me to do the right thing and I am grateful for that. This is not a money making place at all. They truly care for your pet. They would never let your child suffer to make a few extra bucks. I am grateful for the way I and my son were treated at an extremely difficult time. I wish them the best.
This Easter I’m travelling through Europe with my dog. I came to Village vet 25 days ago to do a rabies vaccine and asked the vet how much it will cost to do the certificate. He told me £280. I came back 20 days later and as I’m paying the bill I see £324. I said that’s incorrect because I specifically asked for the price. The response was “it’s a new policy to charge a consultation fee with certificate”. The vet hasn’t done any consultation btw. I said we’ve been here 20 days ago to do the consultation and rabies vaccine, but the person at the reception said she cannot do anything. I asked for the details of manager and she said she will not give them to me, but she will email them instead. Surprise, surprise, no email arrived. This is the last straw in this relationship because this is not the first time this has happened - this is why I now ask for the cost upfront. Fees are added left, right and centre. There are now so many alternatives in London to pay £20 a month and have pet care that doesn’t try to add fees for consultations wherever there are none. Go to vets that care about animals not about how to make more money off you. A different business model is required, one that isn’t built on an assumption that people in a vulnerable position worried about their pets will pay any amount of money. That’s just not an honest business practice.
absolutely poor experience. Put my car through a lot of stress for no reason . Achieved nothing in the end after wasting half a day. 3 people couldn’t take blood test. Feel guilty for bringing my pet who is almost 12 yo here …

Our dog started twitching and having other strange symptoms so we decides to give them a call and they were absolutely fantastic on the phone. I sent them over a video of our dog and they got their vets to examine the footage. In the end we didn’t have to bring her in but the help we got was fantastic. A special thanks to Carl who gave us all the guidelines and fact about the issue which luckily turned out to be not so serious in the end. Just a classic dog high. I highly recommend to at least give them a call if your pet is ill. Prices are also fair for an out of hours vet.
