There is an extremely good art collection at Upton House not all to my taste but a few stand out pieces alone made the visit worthwhile. The garden by the house is small borders and lawn so not particularly special. Further into the ground the terraced borders, vegetable and flower garden are much more interesting. The bog garden was looking particularly good with autumn colours. Be warned the paths are steep and there are lots of steps. There is the usual good cafe, shop and plant sales.
We had a great time here. It's not a big estate as National Trust properties go so you can see it all in a day quite easily. The house is very impressive with interesting artifacts inside. The gardens are well maintained and there are good pathways which are all well signposted. There are plenty of guides around too to make sure you are going in the right direction.
Nice NT property with lots of open space. The gardens are landscaped into the hill side with a nice lake at the bottom. The house is more like an art gallery with most rooms having paintings on every wall. It’s a 3-4 min walk from the car park but I believe there is a shuttle golf cart for people who can’t walk that for.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
What a jem, lovely house set in fabulous grounds. Although the house has had many alterations it's still very interesting. If you're into your art you will not be disappointed, some very special work on display. It also has a nice porcelain collection. A lovely cafe housed in the pavilion a short walk away from the house.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Interesting art and beautiful porcelain, personal I couldn't get very passionate about the art and overall the building is slightly underwhelming after researching the house before hand. I think we have been spoilt with the beautifully staged houses in movies, so that's my bad. The gardens are another story I found them stunning and peaceful. There were great seating areas for viewing ducklings, dragonflies and combination of trees as well as the water features. The best bit I found was the secret escape to the bod gardens, you weren't allowed to go through but could walk around and honestly it was worth coming just for that area. It was a shame that there was no benches to really immurse yourself. Also there is a lot of steps and some steep parts. As with all national trust place the food is pricey understandably given what they need to upkeep. There is a good balance of vegan and vegetarian options.
Lovely house and bee friendly gardens, loads of dragonfly's and butterfly's on the sunny day we were there. Not a huge site but nice variety of gardens, and nice walks through the woods. Good cafe with nice sheltered outdoor seating. Well worth a visit.
Another NT gem, great house and art with the gardens to stroll around as well. Some steep tricky inclines to be aware of if elderly or mobility is limited. Very good cafe as well ..
Pleasant estate in the Cotswold region. As my visit was during the winter months a lot of pathways around the garden were closed although a winter walk route remained available. Time constraints did not allow me to visit the interior of the house, I understand that the galleries and art collection are one of the strong points of this property. I look forward to a revisit at some point when I imagine the gardens will begin to blossom and more pathways will be open. As with most National Trust estates there is a decent car park, cafe and toilet facilities. Admission charges apply to non-members.
A beautiful house and gardens with an extensive art collection. The gardens are on a very steep slope down to a lake the snow drops are very pretty this time of year come the summer time i would think the gardens will be stunning - very informative and friendly staff and volunteers - well worth a visit!
The house has an extensive art collection donated to the Trust along with the house and gardens by Lord Bearsted whose father founded oil giant Shell. Although the garden still suffers from neglect as a result of the covid pandemic, the south facing hillside gardens are still spectacular. Usual tea room, car parking and facilities.
