About

South Londons finest Japanese Restaurant

Story

Freshened up with new furniture & a sultry mix of grey, black & gold hues, Tsunami looks ready to reassert itself among Clapham´s cognoscenti. This modern Japanese eatery may be something of an old hand in the fashionable restaurant stakes, but the cooking is as fresh as ever, with the emphasis on clean strong flavours & beautiful presentation. Dishes are modishly intended for grazing & sharing & the kitchen is happy to cross borders & break with convention. Zingy ‘new-style’ salmon sashimi is seared in olive oil & drizzled with ponzu sauce, lamb is served with oriental mushrooms, creamed leeks & wasabi pepper sauce, & there´s ‘awesome’ sushi for those who want it. Warm & cold sakès are on offer, although most of the sparkly crowd seem to head for the white wines & cocktails. A swish new bar with a 2am licence at weekends is an added bonus.

Tables are in high demand at peak dinner times, but early diners get a 20% discount on food 17.30 - 19.00; at lunch you can get out for under £15 a head.

Good food and it is a bit pricier but was very fresh. Our waiter was lovely and helpful. Couldn’t believe we could get gluten free gyoza so that was a nice surprise. Will definitely return again in the futureFood: 4/5
The food was nice and well presented, my friend and I shared lots of things. one of the waiters , Remi I think was a rushing taking the dishes back and twice he was taking them whilst there was still food inside and I had to stop him. He was nice and we joked about it but I felt like he was rushing us all the time. At one point he brought us the bill without us asking for it, we ended up paying even tho we wanted dessert..
Food was lovely but the wait for second person main meal took more than 30mins and we had to ask while nobody came to inform and same for dessert! There were other clients came after us and got their food before us! Still I recommend this place but please improve customer service.Food: 5/5
I came here for mine and my friend’s joint birthday party. The girls and I had come here over 15 years ago and I remember it being good. It still is! The service was really good and the food was amazing. Dietary restrictions: One of us had a wheat intolerance and a gluten free menu was provided.
Booked for a 40th birthday dinner with large family group. Food was excellent, staff looked after us well and atmosphere was great. Will definitely pay another visit.Food: 5/5
Thank you reene I hope I’ve have his name correct! I thought it was amazing. The service was 10 out of 10. Renée was one of the most amazing person I’ve met; he was very helpful and went out of his way to assist us. He had an amazing attitude . The food was great, and I would recommend this restaurant. And the cocktails were good I fell in love with the side sauce served with the chicken stew. They need to make the sauce and sell it . I would highly recommend this restaurant; it's right by the station. I will definitely be back!
Was in Camden for a retro gaming event. Unfortunately, they didn't quite have the food part sorted so decided to look elsewhere. Thankfully, I managed to persuade a friend to forgo a Cheeky Nandos for something a little bit different...and boy was I glad he agreed as this place is amazing! The food was incredibly flavoursome, fresh tasting, and well cooked. My only slight gripe was that the front of house staff could've been a little bit more attentive, we had to call them over a couple of times. Some appeared to wear a uniform while others were just in smart casual clothes, which looked a little out of place. But these are minor complaints and certainly nothing that would put me off coming here again should I ever be in the area.
If looking for something different but delicious this is the place to go to. Everything we tried was amazing from the veg and non veg items. Location / Atmosphere / Food was all 5*. Service was a bit slow but we didn’t mind that since we had the time to ppl watch and catch up with family. Definitely worth a visit and will be going again.
A wonderful surprise across from the Clapham gay bars. Tucked away on this little street minding its own business, this is an oasis of delicious Japanese food. The bao buns are phenomenal. Try the short rib. An excellent seared tuna sashimi. Yummy chicken gyoza. Some innovative cocktails and mocktails. On a nice evening they have a lovely outdoor space. Inside may be a bit loud with a Playlist of pop music. But no matter where you sit you won't be disappointed by the food.
It was my second time in Tsunami and it is absolutely incredible. The sushi here is one of the top I was eating in London. When you come for happy hour you would be very surprised with a prices as well! With this quality of food I would never expect I will pay so little! Customer service is also excellent, especially from Rene and Kal! Very friendly, making you feel very welcomed! It's a place a will be definetely coming back!
