Lovely place to visit , the cavern itself is really good inside , use the app to listen to a guided tour which was interesting too , staff were friendly upon visiting , shop was good and not overly expensive to take a gift home. The attraction itself is not long maybe an hour at the most but once you come out you can climb the hills by the entrance and see some fantastic views in itself , in fact they are stunning views of the area. Well worth a visit
EPIC day at Treak Cliff - definitely recommend getting the Blue John Stone experience if you get the chance! The history behind these family-owned caves is fascinating, and once inside, there's plenty to see - stalagmites, stalactites, fossils, and the famous Blue John Stone is everywhere! But having the opportunity to actually go prospecting for rock was singularly unique. We were kitted up in caving gear, with buckets and tools, and went with our expert guide into parts of the mine not accessible to the public. Absolutely LOVED IT. It's not just small pieces of stone either - these are big pieces of rock! And plenty of mudAfterwards, you learn to clean and polish and create some beautiful pieces of jewellery to take home. I can't give enough praise to the talented team who work at the cavern. We were there for nearly 7 hours and were so well looked after - we didn't want to go home! A local gem - 5 stars.
Definitely the best Cavern in Castleton, wear good grip footwear as there is a steep climb up the steps and slope and up to the entrance, but has a useful handrail, and in the Cavern and back down to the road. Inside the Cavern it's stunning and the ceiling is quite low so watch your head and make sure you have something warm to put on as it's quite cold. Staff are very helpful and friendly, shop is well stocked and café has reasonable prices as well parking is free.
Nice view up the hill and upon exit of the caves. Nice shop with good collection of stones. Can see blue stones in the cave. The cave is Not big and it’s chilly. Bring a coat.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Stopped in the free car park just below the entrance steps and made my way up. Visited here as part of a mini your including Blue John and Speedwell caverns. After a reasonable climb to the entrance, I downloaded the app before paying for entrance at the shop. The self guided tour was easy to follow and very informative. I had plenty of time to stop and look around as the caves were not busy at all during my visit. Really interesting and well laid out. The tour took me about 30-40 minutes stopping at each point and listening to the audio guide. The highlight is probably the stalactites and stalagmites. There is also a great view from the exit if the weather is clear. It can be slippery under foot at times. There are hand rails for all the steps.
Excellent! Beautiful cave walk and the added audio tour was great. My wife has mobility issues and walks with a stick, but we found no problem getting through the caves. Very well looked after, staff really friendly and a lovely little gift shop at the end.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 min
Love Treak Cliff! We enjoyed being able to walk around the cavern on our own with an audio guide. The Blue John and stalagmites/tites were well worth a visit to see. Great views from outside too!
Absolutely brilliant. The staff in the shop were very friendly and helpful and the "self guided tour" worked very well, changing as we moved from chamber to chamber. Even our 15 month labrador loved it and barked at the door to have another trip aroundVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Interesting cavern near Castleton village in the Peak District. Self guided tour with an app, which gives you plenty of information if you wish. Some pretty amazing geological phenomena in the cavern and the Blue John stone polishing was interesting. The shop even sell bottles of Treak Cliff ale - very good too.
Gives you definitely different vibe to get inside a mountain just after you climbed on the top of another. Then again, you will get to see the million years old fossils... Bought a pretty rose quartz souvenir for myself as well!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
