Story

Torranyard is a small village or hamlet in North Ayrshire, Parish of Kilwinning, Scotland. It lies between the settlements of Auchentiber and Irvine on the A736 Lochlibo Road.HistoryTorranyard is a hamlet at what is now a crossroads on the Irvine to Glasgow A736 'Lochlibo Road', previous to the main road's construction, circa 1820, it sat on the toll road that ran from Kilwinning and Irvine via Benslie to Glasgow, passing Loch Libo at Uplawmoor en route.Roy's map of 1747 records the settlement of 'Turringyard' near Auchenharvie Castle. The 1897 25 inch to the mile OS map records a 'Tour Inn' opposite the old Torranyard Toll, now the Torranyard Tabdoori.. It was recorded as 'Turnyard' in 1775, 'Tirranyard' on Thomson's 1820 map and in 1832. The Montgreenan estate is nearby and the site of the old Girgenti house and surviving tower are nearby on the Cunninghamhead road.The meaning of 'Tour' in Scots is 'Tower', as in the prominent Auchenharvie castle tower nearby. A Yard in Scots is a garden. 'Torranyard' could therefore be a corruption of 'Tour Inn yard.' Local people still pronounce the name 'Torranyard' as 'TOURanyard'.Jamieson records that the inn at Burnhouse was nicknamed the 'Trap 'Em Inn', the one at Lugton was called the 'Lug 'Em Inn', that at Auchentiber the 'Cleek 'Em Inn', and finally the one at Torranyard was called the 'Turn 'Em Out.'

Recently bought a caravan at the site next door. This has become almost a weekly treat for us. Food and service is brilliant. Very friendly and super efficient staff.

Visited today food was brilliant service swift and well priced. Couldn’t fault our food. Best we’ve had in a long time thx to Torranyard staff for a pleasant day. Had a return to torranyard as service and food was great last visit ten of us went most were dissatisfied with service and their food. Chicken dry and hard and most said food was bland no spice. Peshwari nan was nearly plain. South Indian garlic chicken had no spice whatsoever. Had to ask for sauces for pakora. Had to ask for cutlery for spiced onions for poppadoms. Chicken biryani was just rice and dry chicken. Most said they won’t return. The place was very busy that night but that’s no excuse and all house specialities were off the menu.
What an amazing venue, by far the best Indian cuisine I've ever had, with large choice of dishes on the menu. Staff are very polite, friendly and helpful. Dining area is spacious, clean and tidy with a chill atmosphere. Plenty of space in car park too. I've been twice so far and feel the bill was excellent value based on the quality and sizes of the dishes. My new favourite restaurant!
Been numerous times now and never fails to impress. The quality of the food is fantastic. My wife and I turned up, out the blue and we had a table within 5 mins. Service was second to none. We'll be back!!!

Myself and my family have eaten here many times, and I have and would recommend it to anyone for eating out . All of their foods are delicious and hot, and the service is one of the best I have ever experienced Food: 5/5
Myself and my three friends went here for dinner we were seated straight away and the staff were very welcoming and friendly having a joke with our group.We ordered four Currys and garlic naans one of my friends had lamb which he thought was to chewy and not that great I personally think my pawns curry was okay my other two friends were happy with everything that they ordered but unfortunately for myself the garlic naans wasn't that good compared to other I have tasted before.After dinner we all ordered dessert unfortunately the cheese cake I ordered was awfully as like most people desserts is my favourite part ,only had two spoonfuls of it which is very disappointing my friend got sticky toffee pudding which he thought wasn't that Great aswell .Overall the service was very good but the food was okay.
Brilliant meal. Kilwinning beside the caravan Holiday camp. Service was excellent. If you want to have a few extra beers you are allowed to go into the caravan site and a drink there too. Play bingo while kids play the amusement, also a wee shop in the camp site if you need anything.
