Really enjoyed this 'retro' experience. Retro in that I haven't been to a Toby Inn for a very long time and haven't seen the ornamental 'jugs' for even longer but this was a change. Really bug car park and easy access off the main road. Clearly a corporate stamp on the interior decor and layout that didn't detract at all from the happy welcome we received on arrival. We were shown to our seats and drinks orders taken whilst we looked at he menu. Very pleasant and well informed waitress who didn't rush us and was engaging with our party. We decided on the carvery. A really good experience at the servery, chef being really generous and absolutely cheerful. Plenty of food with lovely Yorkshire pudding. There was a choice of Pork, Gammon, Beef and Turkey and I forgot to count but I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said there were at least 8 vegetable dishes, cream carrots with leak and potato, peas, cabbage, cauliflower cheese, carrots, mashed potatoes, cauliflower, plus the 'dirtiest' roast potatoes ever. Cover in reduced thick meat juices made them almost irresistible. Normal, crisp roasters were also there and stuffing. Gravy was as always, smooth and plentiful with any number of sauces. A well presented carvery enhanced by the relaxed atmosphere created by the chef and waiting staff. The food was excellent. Beautifully cooked and filling. We were checked on by the waitress who thankfully didn't just say 'enjoy' but was sincere when saying she hoped we enjoyed our meal. Quick dessert of ice-cream and honeycomb with chocolate sauce and another mint flavoured ice-cream creation. Both were superb. All in all, a relatively inexpensive midweek evening out in a clean and safe environment, where the food atmosphere and staff were excellent Thank you to those that contributed. I shall be back there pretty soon I think. Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetables to compensate for not engaging with the four roasts Kid-friendliness: Very Parking: Big open, although poorly lit car park Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible Dietary restrictions: Whilst being welcomed at our table the waitress check if the were any dietary restrictions or allergies for anyone in our party.
My partner and I both had carvery and dessert from the festive menu yesterday. Seemed a bit quiet in there for 6.30pm on a Friday night, but we preferred that. They followed our table request and seated us by a window. The carvery was delicious with a great selection of meats. Taz the carvery server was bubbly and enthusiastic and made the whole process entertaining for us. Amber our waitress was polite and efficient. Over all, a great experience however, I'm rating a 4 out of 5 because my partner said his festive crumble was bland and his custard was cold. I personally loved my food! Also the lights in the car park were out which meant parking and walking to/from the car felt a bit unsafe. Thanks all and Merry Christmas.
I had booked a table and when we arrived we were shown to the table by staff. She came back to us for our drinks order within minutes and we also advised that we wanted three carvery meals at the same time. She offered us the extras pigs in blankets in a bowl which we also ordered. Very polite and helpful with choices of drinks and menu. We collected our meals and upon return to the table our drinks were waiting for us. Very efficient and helpful throughout. Kid-friendliness: The venue to big enough for children to have room to move and there is a play area out the back. There is also picnic benches outside if they want to run around and make noise without disturbing other guests. Parking: The carpark has plenty of room for visitors and some disabiity spaces right next to the entrance door.
Absolutely amazing customer service from both Amber & Tom... They made my friends and my meal and amazing experience... Another shout out to Mark who was carving our food, he was on his own and was so friendly & again amazing customer service... 100% recommend to anyone who wants good food, amazing service and fab atmosphere... Amber, Tom and Mark thank you so much you guys are amazing and keep it up... I hope the company give them a well deserved raise or even recognition for their amazing team.
Another mistaken decision to visit again hoping things would have improved after many years of putting this carvery in the 'no way' list. Arrived at 7pm but the placed is practically empty. Service is acceptable but food is the lowest grade you can get. Meats are a bit dried. Myself selected one meat only get one slice and family members who selected two meat got two slices. So I recommend you select two meat or you will loose out here compare to other Toby you get two slices. There are only 5 vegetables left and only the potatoes and cauliflowers are good. The others are dried out leftovers standing there for god knows how many hours. The well know toby gravy was like water from a drainage - watery with dried up bits. I showed a chef this and was told there was no other options apart from the vegetarian gravy. During the full duration of the meal there was no other visitors and I clearly can understand this. This Toby needs a dramatic improvement. Another disappointing visit
Had breakfast here. Warm welcome on arrival. Due to a technical fault, there was no coffee included with the breakfast. If we wanted coffee, we had to pay for it. Plenty of food, which was good to see however it could have been hotter. The scrambled eggs were just warm, and so were the sausages. The restaurant itself really could do with a bit of TLC. Curtains half hanging down in the conservatory, and the roof was green, it looked like the place had closed down from the car park but apart from these minor issues, it was fine.
We went out to lunch Monday 12th December, service was, I must was worse than poor. A complete mix up with one meal, drinks order was forgotten and had to go and remind staff and fetch that drinks myself. Sweet was served with out spoons or forks and had to request them.the final straw was we were over charged for a small and on standard buffet. Saying this the food was good. We will go again and only hope that they have more staff on duty capable of handling a busy lunch time.
Great warm welcome, friendly attentive staff. Great selection of FRESH vegies and meat on the counter. Gravy fresh and lump free. Highly recommend also went back next day for breakfast, AMAZING QUALITY, great selection tion, hot, fresh, none greasy, totally terrific. Highly recommend. Staff really, really amazing. Parking: Great large open carpark, loads of spaces. Dietary restrictions: Asked about dietary requirements on both visits, very informative
Awful from start to finish. Table sticky and dirty. Lack of knowledge regarding gluten free options. Waited over an hour for dessert, despite 2 waitresses supposedly checking gf options. Was told only ice cream. Waited another 20 minutes for it to be brought out half melted. Was in a hurry so went to pay while kids ate their desserts. Overcharged by £20. Took another 25 minutes for manager to find our bill on the till. Then realised we had been charged for an extra adult meal and an extra drink. He told me he would refund me £20. Had to go to another till, where another very rude woman manager made me wait another 5 minutes while she insisted I was only due £12 refund. I said "no, he told me he was refunding £20 as we were charged for an extra adult meal and drink" she put refund through on my card...no receipt given and then expected me to wait while she went to get pen and paper to take down my details. I told her my details were on line as I had booked the table and she shouted across the pub at me. Food was mediocre and we wait to see if daughter has ill effects from lack of care over her gf meal. More training definitely needed and managers need a course in customer services. An apology for overcharging was the least I deserved rather than her demanding my details for a refund. What was meant to be a quick easy lunch took 2hrs 45 minutes, over an hour and a half waiting for desserts and refund. Check your receipts if they give you one. Dietary restrictions: Daughter has coeliac disease. Explained it is not a choice but an auto immune disease. She can get seriously ill if glutoned. Told they wouldn't get fresh from kitchen and should be fine from food laid out. I had to tell them gravy contains gluten...oh yes I forgot the gravy was her reply. Told icecream was only gf option for dessert.
Decent food in large quantities. I've been there a few times and have had some problems with service. When we went after work on a week day there was hardly any food left but when we went lunch time on a Sunday we were waiting in the queue to get food for half an hour. All the staff were lovely and friendly. Vegetarian options: A few meat alternatives. They can provide allergen menus to work out what is vegetarian/vegan.
