Made a reservation on their website, came half and hour later but they found us a place in seconds. The food was nice, the meat is tender and full- flavoured. However for someone who is not accquanited with York food I would have needed some more help with ordering. Would visit again!
Great food, plenty of choice of meat, vegetables and potatoes. Welcoming, friendly attentive staff. Maybe staff just need to keep an eye on when gravy, apple / mint sauce is nearing depletion and require top-ups. Otherwise, perfect!
Fantastic carvery. Booked a table for 7 pm, got there a bit early, and the staff were super friendly, and we're able to accommodate us earlier. Great range of food. The meats were great choices and cooked to perfection. The amounts of varying veg available were fantastic, and the gravy was as usual top notch my fave part. Thank you to all the staff for providing fantastic service.
Food amazing as always, slight wait but on a busy Sunday it’s to be expected. Think management could learn a thing or two about speaking to their staff members in front of customers and just in general. Lady with short hair in a pink top today spoke to our server Luke disgustingly in front of lots of customers. Commenting on him stood doing ‘nothing’ while tables are waiting to be cleaned, the table in question was in fact clean and we had witnessed Luke cleaning tables and making sure guests food were okay throughout our stay. Awful abuse of power, I am a regular at the restaurant and know Luke hasn’t been there very long but he is always very attentive and polite. Shame on you managers, start treating your staff with respect especially in front of customers.
Came for an anniversary meal, lovely waitress with blonde hair, demi i think it was. 10/10 meal 10/10 service. Thank you
Had a great experience here. We requested a quieter space and they were able to accommodate us. I ordered off the menu, wanted a Turkey Club sandwich in the Yorkshire pudding wrap, but they had run out. Luckily the chef said he could make it for me in two smaller sandwiches, which was amazing and I really appreciated them finding a solution for me
The food was absolutely amazing, the meat was carved perfectly by a young lass who was wearing a face piercing and glasses she was lovely and polite. When i went to pay my bill I tried to tip the girl but I only had card and they said I couldnt but I could tip the waitress on card. Why is it that the waitress can be tipped through any form of payment but the chefs cannot?
Came on the 14th October for my birthday with my husband and disabled sister in law. I have adhd and get extremely overwhelmed in public spaces but our server Megan was so lovely and accommodating in finding us a quiet booth. Megan was also so friendly and welcoming. It honestly made the experience wonderful. So much so we have come back a week later my suggestion. This is from someone that rarely goes out to eat due to sensory overload and social anxiety. So thank you to Megan and all the other friendly staff here.
I paid for room hire for a special 18th birthday celebration, so disappointing. The service was bad, absolutely shockingly bad! I requested a sit down meal, nothing was set up when I arrived, I spent the first 20 minutes dragging cumbersome tables that did not fit together, a young member of staff offered to help bless her, but she looked run ragged. The tv in the room didn't work so we couldn't play music which made for a pretty stale atmosphere. They did not mention this when I booked or else I would have made alternative arrangements for music. They got the number of guests wrong, name on the booking wrong, everything wrong. Nothing was set up for the vegans so we had to ask for something. We were told 'They can order from the menu or can eat the vegetables'. They did reluctantly bring some vegetarian potatoes and gravy when asked. Nobody came in to take our drinks order so we had to go searching for people and they did not look happy about that. You couldn't get a more miserable looking bunch of staff if you tried. It really did put a downer on things and made people feel uncomfortable to ask. People had to leave the room and go to the bar to order drinks while their food went cold. The customer service in general left a lot to best desired. Staff were curt and sullen and looked miserable the whole time. Couldn't be bothered, didn't want to be there. I understand you are busy but there are nicer ways to say things. We shouldn't have to hunt you down, and not in an empty restaurant. You're supposed to be providing a service. Condements were brought in after we'd finished eating. Piles of dirty plates were left sitting on the table and were still there when we left. Not one person came in to wait on us the whole time we were there! No ventilation in the room so the room was uncomfortable, hot and humid and more warm air was pumped in via a heater. We kept having to leave for air as windows don't open. I'd suggest investing in a fan which obviously we asked for one but were dismissed as 'The room gets cold'. What they failed to mention is the function room gives access to the storage room, so staff were continually hurrying in for supplies and carrying jumbo packs kitchen towels etc above the guests heads. No words were exchanged like sorry or excuse me, or even a joke to lighten the atmosphere. The staff seemed annoyed we were there. I felt embarrassed by the whole spectacle. It was a total shambles! After an hour I'd had enough and was ready to leave so I asked for the birthday cake to be lit and was told NO! We persisted. A different staff member kindly lent us his personal lighter. We asked for a knife to cut the cake, surprise suprise, 'No we don't have knives, you'll have to use a butter knife!' The whole night was a shambles and embarrassing, the place is clearly not set up for functions. Despite all of this we made the most of our evening but we quickly left and made a vow to never return, not to this venue anyway. It's such a shame as 4 years ago I had a lovely birthday meal here and it was such a different experience. I know we're in a cost of living crisis but niceties costs nothing. I'm not sure this business will continue to operate in a year if things don't drastically improve. Edit to add, I'm happy to see a response, albeit a generic one. But my number is on the booking April 12th and if you're serious about putting things right you could have reached out to me, you haven't.
Always accommodating and able to just walk in without booking, the staff were friendly and ensured we had used the tablet to register our car for free parking on entry, they were also attentive in asking about any allergies or intolerance. Myself and my friend both opted for the carvery which was lovely, all fresh and warm. Staff also came over to ask if we were happy with our food and were quick to remove plates and ask if we wanted any desserts and let us pay the bill promptly without hassle.
