Story

When it comes to roast dinners, we really know our stuff. Every day our chefs lay on a feast of tender, hand-carved meats with all the trimmings – including towering Yorkshire puds, golden roasties with all those lovely little crunchy bits, and plenty of freshly prepared veg, all crowned with proper gravy. So it's no wonder we're Christchurch's favourite carvery restaurant.

It was a very disappointing visit for my son's birthday last Tuesday. I had booked a table for six but we were slightly late. We were met with an unhelpful front of house who told us our table had been cancelled and could not be found. I explained we were part of a bigger party and that it was for my son's birthday. We were told we could eat in the bar. The lady disappeared, and we were left in the reception. Then we noticed three of our party, who had arrived on time, had been seated at our table. Why this was not explained, I have no idea. Then we were seated at a small table two small tables pushed together and told to go to the counter when we were ready. When we got there, the gammon was not available and nor were peas, crackling, and some other selections. It's a shame as my son only eats the gammon. It was not late as it was only about 7.50. The waiter Mario was kind and helpful, but the entire evening was ruined by a poor greeting and an unwillingness to help. The table booked the day before looked like an afterthought. See the picture attached. I've been to this Toby many, many times, but I have never had such a bad experience. Over a hundred pounds spent without starters or puddings and only one alcoholic drink. We left feeling very short-changed as we rarely get out as a family. I would not recommend based on my most recent experience. There was no apology from anyone. As we left we noticed a puncture in the wheel of my car caused by debris in the car park. Another £160! All in all, it's not a good experience at all.
The food was good and service was mostly ok. We had an issue when we asked to upgrade an adult meal to the two course set menu so we could have a desert. The desert we chose turned out not to be one of the set menu options. We weren’t told this at the point of ordering so ended up having to pay full price. We would’ve expected the waitress to have advised us this was the case when we ordered the desert given we specifically asked about the set menu. Vegetarian options: . Parking: . Kid-friendliness: .

We were in the area on holiday and decided decided to call in without booking to see if they could accommodate 8 people. There was no room in the main restaurant but we were given a table in another area which was fine. Toby is our Grandaughters favourite place to eat and as always it didn't disappoint. Everything was good and we all enjoyed our meals. One of our party could not eat all of her food so she asked if she could take it home. A box was supplied to her so she was able to avoid the food being wasted.
We always get attended to quickly and get our food quickly. Alana has served us every time of late and always makes sure we have a smooth and peaceful visit. The food is decent and we leave happy. Highly recommend for an easy and tasty dinner, especially on a week day!Food: 5/5
Really enjoyed our meal here yesterday afternoon, the food was great but the service was outstanding. Our waitress Liz at the Hinton carvery was superb and gave excellent customer service. She was just lovely and went above and beyond. I had my two little ones with me and Liz was fantastic with them, extremely patient and even including them in the conversation. She really is a credit to your team there and I definitely will be returning.
Good service and quickly seated. The food here is great, the carvery is very nice and help yourself to all the vegetables you want. This is a great place to eat an very good value for money, I would highly recommend this place to all if you are in the area. I would definitely return to this place good service throughout.Food: 5/5
Lovely meal the best bit about this carvery is the staff Alana our waitress is always smiley and very helpful every time we have been and served by Alana she always make sure that you got everything you need and goes out her way she is genuinely a helpful friendly person which makes a big difference and she's a big asset to the company. Thank you for your amazing service Alana.
Was so impressed here. Excellent staff, genuinely seem happy to see you. Decided to go for the all you can eat Breakfast. Good value and was very suprised by the quality of the food. Love the fact you can have a Yorkshire pudding with your breakfast, sounds weird but it definitely works!! Overall very impressed with this Toby Carvery It’s definitely the best one I have been to. Will come back and have the roast next time. Big thank you to the whole team. Good work you make this place one of the best Toby’s
We've eaten in quite a few Toby's for all inclusive breakfast & this one has been the best so far! We had such a friendly welcome Sat morning, delicious hot food & clean tables that we returned Sunday while we were still in the area. Thank you all.Food: 5/5
