Out to make as much profit with as little effort as possible. When one thinks of Brixham and culinary experiences, you are likely to conjure up two images in your head; fish and chips, and cream tea. After already having indulged in the first earlier in the week, we decided on our last day of our trip to try the second. We were not short of establishments to choose from, but were drawn to Tiffany's due to its central location, and surprisingly busy custom. Plus, a cream tea can't be done badly, can it? We were soon proved wrong. The outside of the cafe contains several posters and sandwich boards advertising their cream teas - although noticeably, it does say Cornish Cream Tea, and the image shows a scone served the Cornish way jam first, then cream, which seems a little odd in a Devon town. There is also a logo for Roddas clotted cream, known to be one of the best, with a sign saying 'Roddas cream tea enjoyed here.' Note it says enjoyed, not served - because after eating here, I can safely say the product sold to us was NOT a Roddas cream tea, nor was it enjoyed. The cream was so runny it barely counted as single cream, let alone clotted - and certainly wasn't Roddas, with no taste either. The jam was just as tasteless and therefore acted as nothing more than a garnish. The scones were the only redeemable part, which were average, and I'm assuming this is where the majority of our £8.45 was spent - it certainly wasn't on good quality other ingredients. The coffee served with it was also tasteless - I have had nicer out of hospital vending machines. The only cold drink on offer, as my boyfriend does not like hot drinks, was squash - which I don't think really equates to the same value as a pot of tea or standard coffee. With a price point the same as other standard cream teas in the area, there is really no excuse for using what must be the cheapest ingredients they are able to get their hands on. Additionally, we were originally charged £8.65, 20p more than the menu price, and simply got our change shoved back at us without an apology when we picked them up on it. This brings me to the service. There was little customer service evident from the start, with us being made to feel more of a nuisance than anything else, and they had run out of both spoons and saucers because they'd 'had a busy day' - at 2pm on a weekday in non peak season, leaving customers to stir drinks with a dessert spoon. Needless to say I won't be going back again on our next visit, and would not recommend. I could have made a nicer cream tea at home for half the price, with decent quality ingredients, and a teaspoon to stir my coffee!
THE WORST CREAM TEA IN TORBAY? Made from the cheapest ingredients possible, the "thick clotted cream" is barely double cream, the jam looks and tastes like a tesco value variety... Signs on display all over the cafe showing "Roddas Cornish cream sold here", yes it may be sold here but it's certainly not what they use in the standard cream tea that's on offer. Not even peak season when we visited and we were told to stir our drinks with a table spoon as they'd run out of tea spoons. We were overcharged for our cream teas when we visited, we noticed the mistake after eating and pointed the error out to the ?manager? on the till. He gave us the correct change but did not apologize or question us! Is this standard practice to take advantage of holiday makers by overcharging. Very disappointed -budget cream teas at luxury prices. Poor customer service, management just here to make as much money as possible DO NOT VISIT!
Brixham is a place that I remember growing up in. Tiffany's, however, just brings it down. It looks nice and hearty on the outside- shame the same thing can't be said about the cafe's toilets. Apparently, in the male loos some dolt has gone and turned Audrey Hepburn into Harry Potter! To add insult to injury, the loos smell to high heaven. Only use them if you're 100% desperate. The food there is amazing, although the US pancakes are reportedly dry and grainy. All in all, a so-so place to eat.
Absolute chaos, queued at counter trying to order for 15mins, 6 members of staff walked past me and the other people queuing trying to give them my money. One guy asked where his food was as hed waited a long time Owner said well we called you three times. Lots of better restaurants to eat where chaos does reign.
Not as nice as i remember, i have been coming here for about 15 years with my husband and used to love their breakfasts. Ordered a cheese and tuna jacket potato, but only got the tuna, no cheese. Has this cafe changed management?
I've been going to Tiffany's for the last 15 years and used to go for one of their fantastic breakfasts. But I now feel that the food in general has gone down hill to average. Shame.
Visited Tiffany's last week, best Cafe we found in the week we were away, good food, friendly staff, very clean, and well presented .
The hot salted caramel cake was to die for
