We've been coming to Shipmates for 5 years now and have never faulted it. It's recently changed hands and we're so disappointed! The staff are lovely and the food is still great but the 4 times we've been in May and August at least 1 meal has been forgotten and we've then had to wait while it's being cooked and then eaten, while trying to keep 4 children entertained! I don't ever leave negative reviews but felt this warranted it, hopefully the new owners can get on top of this and we can continue enjoying our visits to our favourite cafe :
Visited this afternoon, staff friendly and were keeping everything clean and clear for visitors. Food was priced well and quickly served. Very efficient and couldn't do enough for us! With all the concerns around this virus, they'd done everything they could do make everyone welcome and safe. Hope your season is as good as it can be!
We stayed in Brixham for three days as a mini break. We discovered that the cafe on the harbour side called Shipmates had recently changed hands now called Mambos this is a great improvement. The staff were very friendly and the food was great and perfectly cooked. We ended up going there 3 times for breakfast. This outlet deserves to flourish and any negative remarks posted regarding the previous owners on the web should be ignored. We we make a beeline to Mambos when we're next in town.
This business is now titled “Mambo’s” previous reviews for “Seamate’s” should be ignored… there has recently been a change of management. This Café was a wonderful discovery after several negative experiences in the area. The staff were welcoming, quick to service and friendly, with the venue being clean and airy. The food received was tabled quickly, perfectly cooked, well portioned and competitively priced. When in Brixham Harbour this is the place to visit, I know I’m looking forward to my next meal there.
Dire. Only wanted a couple of Americans. Three staff and one chef appeared to be needed near the coffee machine. We waited - and waited. Two members of staff, obviously more important than us came and sat down with their coffees before we got ours! Couldn't drink it. Tasted like the cheapest waterery powdered instant coffee. Absolutely vile.
Really nice cafe with friendly service right on Brixham harbour, perfect for a cheap lunch and watching the world go by.
Came as a party of six and sampled the breakfasts, cream teas, cake and hot chocolate. Everywhere was spotless, the staff were polite and helpful and everything we had was piping hot and delicious. Dog friendly which was a bonus. Just beware the gulls if eating outside, my daughter lost a scone to a flying mugger! Will definitely be back.
Lovely place just on the harbour front of Brixham. We decided to have the cod chops and peas. It was lovely, crispy batter, not overflowing with chips which was perfect for me. A very good portion for a very good price. Considering they were rushed off their feet and hadn't stopped at day, the staff were efficient, friendly and smiling and ready to serve us. They have made it as Covid safe as possible, with the track and trace sign in and out book. Lovely place, lovely food lovely people. You couldn't wish for more. Thank you and long may you continue.
Fully recommend Welcoming, clean, professional and friendly. Breakfast very presentable tasty and good value. Well worth a visit
Absolutely terrible service! Very rude elderly lady behind the till. My wife is medically exempt from wearing a mask, she demanded to see her card in a very aggressive way. She herself only had a visor which let’s face it, does absolutely nothing!!! Avoid at all costs if you don’t want to be discriminated against.
