I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Thornton House for the care they gave to my mum. She loved every moment there. I know she could be ‘a card!’ At times. But that’s who she is. She was upset that she couldn’t stay there. So thank you again. A big shout out to Janet, her carer and Carl, from the office, who kept me updated. I’ll miss seeing you all
The care staff are overworked but in the main very helpful and professional. I would advise anyone that has a relative going in here to make a careful list of all property going in and label everything. My mum was in there for a few over Xmas and family bought her new night ware and dressing gowns etc. A really big deal was made of marking everything with a sharpie so it didn't get lost in the laundry. When she was finally sent home, these new items and other things were missing and she had clothes that weren't hers. I know she had never even worn the dressing gown so that laundry can't be blamed. I have called and been promised call back that never happened. I have emailed and included links to what was lost so it can be searched for and replaced and they have all gone unacknowledged. My advice would be do not send anything of any value and keep accurate record with what you do send!
Had a family member in here who was on end of life care. There was no dignity for our family member as he never had any clothes on, laid in his own faeces with it only getting done when we asked for it to be done. We also had to ask for them to be repositioned and moved further up the bed as their feet were hitting the bottom of the bed. Could definitely do with a refurb and main bathrooms need a good clean. Asked if I could use a bathroom and was shown to a bathroom where there were feacal matter all over the seat. Even though staff would come into the room to see if family wanted drinks , they never checked on the family member who was bed bound. We were there for a person who was on end of life to say our goodbyes and could hear staff swearing in the corridors and seemed to be no dignity or compassion. Definitely room for improvement
My mother Dorothy stayed at this wonderful home for a number of weeks. The staff are all dedicated and truly care for the residents. This included all the carers, who are lovely and office staff. I must mention Carl in particular who was extremely helpful during a very stressful situation! The home has a lovely atmosphere, is clean and also provides lovely home cooked food. My mum was staying here for reablement and was seen regularly by the Physio and the Doctor. She truly enjoyed her time there and as a family, we were very happy knowing that she was safe and enjoyed her stay. Do not overlook this home, it has a lot to offer. Many of the staff have worked there for many years, which says a lot about the place. I cannot recommend Thornton House highly enough and if my mum had to go back into to a care home, she and her family would want her to return to Thornton House.
After 8 weeks at Thornton House I finally got home being a different person than when I was discharged from hospital. I was barely mobile at first and very underweight. Due to the excellent home cooked food and great care from the care staff, ancillary staff, physios and occupational health I have put on over 10kg and become more mobile and independent. I can’t thank them all enough for getting me to this point.
