Lunch in the view on a Sunday afternoon. Soup followed by steak & chips. A nice large restaurant with outside tables if required. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great on Sunday so every time someone came in from the outside the doors were left open so the inside restaurant got cold very quickly. The staff were very friendly and welcoming but this didn’t make my steak taste any better. It was overcooked on one side and had obviously been sitting around as was barely warm. I think the restaurant were short staffed and due to everyone being stuck in Oban due to floods & landslides were struggling to cope. I would like to try again sometime and sit outside on a sunny day as the views are amazing !
Very good pub/restaurant- upstairs with a view of the bay, indoor & outdoor seating. The night we were there they had traditional Scottish music and dancing show 10 pounds which was entertaining- and you are part of the entertainment experience if you are willing to learn to dance!
Best view of Calmac ferries . Yes! They were running. Lovely Staff helped us get a great table for this harbour View , hence name of the establishment. Above 3 shops and easily accessed long flight of stairsFood: 4/5
Excellent ambiance and an incredible vista of the bay over Oban make The View stand out. The food and drinks are outstanding as well, lifting Balmoral Chicken and Scottish Salmon to new levels of delicious.Food: 5/5
Came specifically because of the menu board out on the sidewalk. Looked like a good selection so we tried it tonight. Our server, Catriona was so welcoming. She came and told us that the kitchen food was backed up, but we chose to wait. The wait was longer than hoped for, but our food was hot and delicious. It was my first time trying haggis, neeps and tatties.. and the entree was delicious. Even though they were short staffed, and under a lot of pressure to serve many people, Catriona never looked flustered, but smiling and positive. She’s a gem!
Lovely meal, beautiful view out over the bay with the ferry coming and going. Place is dog friendly which is great, with a lovely balcony with great views. Staff were lovely and welcoming, was a shame the place was quiet considering it was lunch time place deserves to be busier. The mushrooms on toast were superb! The macaroni was lacking a little cheese but nevertheless lovely.
Extremely rude and incompetent staff who won't take responsibility for their mistakes. 1 I had to run around after them to finally place my order, as they didn't bother coming to the table. 2 They said they'd get my food out for a certain time, when I asked. But then they didn't. Even, when I asked if I could have the food by a certain time, they were very catty about answering the question 3 They tried charged me for the food they failed to bring. The male server insisted I should pay for it, even though they couldn't get it to me when they said they could. I repeatedly told him the female server had told me they could get the food ready in time, and yet they failed. 4 Finally, the female server admitted she failed to take the food off the bill. The male server who was doubling down on their mistake did not apologize. Another female server did. I paid for my drinks and left. TL;DR - the staff ruined my lunch and nearly ruined my day. Not only do the staff lack basic hospitality skills, but they also do not take responsibility for their mistakes and try to blame customers.
Food is good value and good size portions. We did, however, waited a good while for our orders to come and it was not that busy. Great views from the restaurant. Service was not as expected. The server just placed our drinks in the middle of the table for us to get them. Also, my friend asked for sugar for her coffee and the young server threw 2 sachets across the table. When asked what the soup of the day was, she did not know so went back to ask.
The atmosphere was great. The dancing was fun. However, the service was not available. We waited 30 min to order food and we had to approach a server ourselves to order. I would suggest giving the staff more training.Food: 2/5
The only positive thing about the restaurant is the view onto the sea, that is pretty nice. However the employees are extraordinarily unfriendly. We had the feeling they disliked every customer coming in as it means work for them. On top of that they closed two hours earlier. They simply came to us and told us that we have to leave now without prior notice. Definitely cannot recommend!
