Absolutely worth a stop if you’re exploring Edinburgh’s Old Town! The Vennel Viewpoint is tucked away up a charming stone stairway off the Grassmarket, and when you reach the top you get a breathtaking, postcard-perfect view of Edinburgh Castle rising above the rooftops. It’s a bit of a climb, but totally free and very easy to find — perfect for iconic photos or just soaking up the atmosphere. Even during busier times it never feels too crowded, and the historic steps and skyline make it one of the most memorable viewpoints in the city. Highly recommend visiting during golden hour for spectacular light!
The Vennel Viewpoint offers one of the most picturesque views of Edinburgh Castle you can find. Tucked away near the Grassmarket, it’s a peaceful spot where old stone steps frame a stunning skyline. It’s a favourite for photographers and travellers, yet somehow it still feels calm and local. The view is especially beautiful at golden hour, when the sun hits the castle perfectly. I wanted to see these steps since I watched One day on Netflix.nIt was kind of crowded but it was worth the wait to snap a few nice photos. The view from the steps are amazing. Go there if you have the change.
Absolutely stunning view of Edinburgh Castle. It is very busy here on most days including weekdays so you have to be mindful of others and patient but there comes an opportunity for everyone to get a few photos of themselves and their family etc if wanted. We came twice during our stay because it was cloudy on the first visit but clear on the second.
gorgeous view, very busy though. convenient location on grassmarket very close to the royal mile. lots of cute little shops in the square.
