We visited on a Sunday afternoon, last entry was at 2pm. Very helpful and chatty volunteer at reception, lots of information notice boards including a set of tutor menus written in old English with the modern translation and the history of codpieces and origins of the term family jewels The fireplaces were spectacular. You can wonder upstairs too. Definitely worth at least a 30 min visit and excellent value. Small shop inside selling souvenirs and bits and pieces
We visited the Tudor house as part of the Margate Museum ticket deal at £3 per adult for both attractions. We were greeted by an absolute salt of the earth guy named Ade, he constantly wore a beautiful smile and was super patient and kind to the children. He directed us on where to go then gave us more information. We first visited the cooking/ food room. Learned that it Tudor times sugar was 20 timers more expensive than beef. It was one of those information that you never expect to be true. The menu of daily food were displayed and more history was shared around the room on food growing habits and other things Tudors did. We then went to the hall and moved around the house to see the beauty of the Tudor architecture. As we went upstairs there was conveniently a table with drawings and colouring pencils for the kids to do their own colouring in work. It was such a great addition as it kept them occupied whilst my husband and I looked around the other rooms. Come to the textile room we met Pam, what an incredible lady. So full of talent and knowledge. It was a breath of fresh air! Absolutely beautiful place with exceptional architecture and to think that this house was almost going to be demolished. I'm so glad this Gen is open for the public to see and admire. From the textile room there is a staircase to the garden which is beautifully manicured and we'll landscaped. In the main hall part you can buy souvenirs which is a plus.
Strongly recommend. It's only £2! Amazing volunteers and such an informative place. I know a large amount about the era and I learned so much about how Tudor dressed and why. Tip: go upstairs and try on the handmade tudor outfits!
The house is impressive inside . From the outside you can feel how old it really is and it makes you wonder how it was in its times , how was the life of people who were living next door , how was the town back then . I love places like that , when old history mixing up with the new one .
A wonderful historical place with a well maintained garden & herbary, definitely worth a visit.
I didn't get the chance to see the interior of this historic place due to being here on a day which it wasn't open to the public but from what i read and things, would loved to, perhaps someday i will.
Small, restored Tudor house. Some history of the Tudors displayed inside, with original features. Not much to see, but at only £2 entry, worth a look if you're into history. Definitely worth a look if you're into dressing up, as one of the volunteers has a collection of reconstructed Tudor costume, which we had a great time trying on!
A small little interesting Tudor house in Margate, a quaint and cheap stop by where you can learn a fair amount of Tudor history, what is especially interesting is that a significant proportion of the house is original. It is good for kids as well, but some of the doorways are a bit small. But that just adds to the realism!
Well preserved Tudor House with small museum
It was closed when I arrived but the building itself was so pretty and cute. Looking forward to visiting it next time
