Lovely setting with friendly staff and a really good menu. Dog friendly and they have water and bowls at the entrance for any thirsty pooches. Great selection of lagers and ales. Unfortunately the poached egg on the seabass florentine was overdone. A bit of a schoolboy error. It would have been marked down on Masterchef so I've marked it down here.
Have been to the swan a few times. Never been disappointed. This time we went and had a roast and again definitely not disappoint. The roast was huge and great value for money. Best roast in the area I would say. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice a chilled. Would say it's worth booking it can get very busy most days.
This review should not be taken lightly. This will also be followed up with an email to management. I was appalled at the quality of the food and cleanliness at The Swan. I entered the pub with my Partner where we ordered our drinks and collected our menu. Returning to the bar, we were then given a huge list of food not available as the kitchen was short staffed. So we returned to our seats and made a new choice of food. Once decided, my Partner ordered Steak and Ale Pie, I ordered slow roast beef rib roast. When the food eventually came to us, I quickly noticed the quality of the product. It was quite frankly unacceptable! The "goose fat roast potatoes" was infact frozen roast potatoes, bland, hard and cold in the middle! the beef rib was evidently some sort of pre cooked reheated, slimy bone, partially warm. I quickly got the attention of a waiter as my partners steak and ale pie was stone cold in the middle! Her food was taken away to be replaced with a hot meal, during this time I dissected the utter slop on my plate. at this point I noticed the cold roast potatoes, the quality of them and the sheer lack of care that came out of that kitchen. 20minutes later, a replacement steak and ale pie came to the table. In fairness, apparently it was acceptable for pub food. My plate, which had 3 quarters of the meal left on it, was placed to the side of the table and completely ignored by the waiting staff. Having said this, when the plates were collected by the waiter with long hair, the speed and embarrassment from him was evident. even that particular staff member knew I wasn't happy and the food was below what is acceptable. moments later, my partner noticed lipstick on both of our Aspel glasses! at this point I had to leave the pub. Not only is this a health and safety concern through cleanliness, it is out right rude to your customers. a number of hours later my partner also developed a stomach ache that i hold the pub responsible for through terrible quality food. if I wasnt so angry with the level of service, I would have made an official complaint yesterday. I will not be leaving this here, I will follow this up officially. Update***** I had contact with senior management who issued a full refund plus a £25 voucher of which I gave away. Apparently this was the most they could do. My advice to people is to avoid this particular establishment. It is unclean, food management is appalling and delivery of product is far below expectations. Chef&Brewer and Greene King should be embarrassed.
Lovely garden backing onto the canal. Lovely indoor bar area and restaurant. Good variety of food reasonably priced. Quick and efficient service this lunch time.
Nice pub, good food, good selection of beers but, good grief, the bar service is bad. Staff are friendly enough but it takes forever to get served. This has happened on several occasions and not only when the place is busy. I'll keep going because I like the atmosphere and the location on the canal nice stop off if you're canoeing/ paddle boarding but, please, hire more staff!
A great place to go for dinner. Was greeted at the door with friendly staff and great atmosphere. Ramp up to the door, booked a table as it was quite busy. Fast service from excellent servers and food came out lovely! Great selection of chef and brewer food and specials. Would definitely recommend for and evening drink or dinner!
Real great lunch on Sunday. It was super busy so we made sure we booked a table. The food was great, although there was still quite a wait at 245. The pie was fantastic and the rib of beef was awesome. The staff were helpful and quick to help. Will definitely be visiting again.
We booked in advance for last Friday & hadn't been before. The starters were okay, but we both had fish & chips and they were really dry, chewy and didn't taste fresh or freshly cooked at all. We couldn't finish our meals, and didn't have much time to address it as service was so slow and we had other reservations. It was a shame it was so disappointing as some of the food looks great!
Not sure what has happened to the Swan which used to serve fabulous food with amazing service. Today we were given a steak and ale pie containing gristle and no steak, and the most unbelievably flat dry prawns that I could hardly get the shell off they were so over-baked, tasteless dry sea bass and salmon with crusty black edges that I literally could not bite through, and a sad wilted rocket salad. We won't be back until we hear there is new management and/or new kitchen staff.
Great selection of beers with friendly, quality staff and an okay atmosphere. Unfortunately the food didn’t quite marry up to the expectations of the price and location of the pub, in what looks an affluent area. It was okay and perfectly edible but I’d suggest overpriced given the speed at which it came out it suggests similar to Wetherspoons type food. I’ll not be rushing back.
