Site of the famous Gainford Spa - naturally flowing mineral water. Quite a sulphur smell, but quite sweet to drink! Nice and cool on a hot day.
Lovely tranquil spot. Easy access by foot and possibly with a pushchair. You can smell the spa before you see it. We did taste the water and it tasted ok.
What a wonderful hidden gem! A short woodland walk 500m approx from the little layby down to the spa. A lovely quiet jaunt, with lovely riverside views. You can certainly smell the sulphur, but the water actually tastes quite nice! It was a brilliant adventure for our little girl!

Only came down here to find a geocache it's a good one btw but thought this was absolutely delightful! A beautiful spot, no one else around, and a cool feature! The information board is missing at the top of the slope. Perhaps it's currently being replaced.
There's a slight aftertaste of sulphur in the water but generally tastes fresh and pure. Worth the walk if you like taking the waters.
Easy walk along river from Gainford, or down path from main road, to spar is one of the little gems of Teesdale
