"In 1950, a certain Edna Mazza bought the Sugar Bowl in Darien with the idea of working it herself with a small staff. It would serve classic comfort food, a business idea that, when done right by a caring owner, is as close to a sure thing as you’re going to find in America. Edna Mazza was a hard worker, the number one requirement in the restaurant trade. Irish/German, she was married to an Italian businessman. Her three sons were put through college with the proceeds derived from selling bacon, eggs and a near infinite stack of pancakes."

We went to this place on Saturday afternoon. Love the holiday decorations and the brunch was amazing. There weren't many people since we went pretty late 2:40pm for brunch. The service was good and the food came pretty fast. Also the food was very reasonably priced at a great location on Darien. We’d totally go again!Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: Yes
We strolled in on a busy Sunday afternoon and were impressed! The Sugar Bowl is FANTASTIC. Why? It's simplicity and quick service. We ordered a patty melt, pancakes with eggs over easy and bacon. A simple, common breakfast and yet we were met with such hospitable service. Our coffee cups were never empty and our table was always attended! The ONLY downfall of this wonderful restaurant is their parking! Other than that, everything was impeccable! The Sugar Bowl is wonderfully placed & should consider expanding because it is charming and presents wonderful and distinctive service!
This place is intense haha they decorate it a few times a year and cover all the ceiling with it. The food is good albeit a bit on the expensive side. The waiters are very nice and seem to be employed full time not just a bunch of random hourly people. This shows they care about the community and I appreciate this. Will come back again.
We came here on a Saturday around noon and were swiftly served. The menu is classic diner food and it’s all well-prepared. We enjoyed our meal here!
Stumbled across this great local luncheonette and enjoyed the food. Friendly service and atmosphere too!
Nice mix of good + bad branch. Over priced. I do consider myself cheapskate, but I would consider the area and the quality of the food for my comment. My bill was roughly $34, and we have ordered Mac & Cheese, ham & egg with spinach, corned beef hash + eggs. I satifly with my corned beef. The ham & egg were not bad, but the spinach was a can job and left un-eaten. Mac & cheese was a box job, we use the same and my kid knows it well.
Great breakfast place with outdoor seating for the outdoor social distance. The good was good and the vibe is nice, most items were disposable except the water cups and the plates. Overall very happy with the place and I will be back.
a little expensive, food bland, homefries are barely cooked potatoes...would not go again for breakfast....could have made a better home cooked breakfast.
We wanted to like this spot. It has a very quaint, family-owned, classic feeling. When we walked in, nobody greeted us or anything. It was our first time there so we kind of stood there awkwardly for a couple of minutes until we decided to just grab our own table, which I guess is the system there. Took a while for someone to come over to us. We had to flag someone down. Coffee was fine but not that hot and a little watery. The major issue was how long we waited for our food. All we ordered was French toast, scrambled eggs, and a bagel. It took over a half hour. Our food showed up right as we were thinking of leaving some cash on the table and walking out. The food was fine, nothing wrong with it, but also nothing special by any means. Not worth waiting over a half hour for. Our server didn’t offer us a refill of coffee until he brought us the check, which was weird. It was hot and stuffy inside and felt a little unclean. The spoon brought with our coffees had a bit of food stuck to it. Something I can appreciate is that many of the staff seemed to be truly working really hard. I’m just not sure why the service was so slow.
Tasty breakfast in very cordial setting. Worth going just for the decorations. We enjoyed their version of Valentine's day. Food was good and prices fair. Seemed to be a local favorite.
