Late breakfast / early lunch here. Good quality, freshly made foods mackerel burger, crab salad, crab sandwich and cheese & onion pasty- all delicious, well-presented and with generous but still healthy portions. Good coffees and a shared slice of homemade cake followed. Counter service was cheerful, friendly and courteous. Table delivery was from younger helpers who could perhaps use a little extra training - but all was good. We felt lucky to bag a plum table on what was a mixed and windy day - Strand Café in a prime spot and clearly gets very busy. Pricing is upscale but, we felt, about right given the very good overall quality.
Visited twice over a sunny bank holiday weekend. Very friendly, very reasonably priced and excellent food. The simple crab sandwich or salads come with a decent amount of crab. Others seem to enjoy delicious salads pasties and home made burgers. Everything is home made. Nice simple sandwiches for kids. Even in high season and on a busy sunny hot day we got a table at lunchtime as we waited for the tide to go out. Pretty tables looking out towards the rocks and ocean.
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and the owners and staff are wonderful. The cafe is dog- and vape-friendly, too!
Went to the cafe in the morning expecting a pre beach snack, little did I know burying my head in the sand would’ve been a nicer experience. The hot chocolates were disappointing at best, unmixed cups of thick sludgy powder. Out of the four cream teas we ordered two scones per cream tea only 2 sets of jam and cream came out without us asking for the rest. Staff were minimally helpful. Once cutlery was requested insufficient amounts provided all we got was a handful of teaspoons however cutting scones with a tea spoon is a very fun and engaging activity for all ages. Scones broke into more pieces than a smashed window. Overall a 1/10 and the 1 being for the view…
Arrived at 09:50 and the doors were open, I popped my head in and asked if they did Breakfast? I was told no and that they were closed and would be open in 10 to 15 minutes. We decided to wait. At 10 am there was a young lad behind the counter and I went in again and asked if they were open now? The man in the kitchen presumably the owner? then shouted “ see the closed sign in the window, when I turn that around to open, we will be open” The closed sign was not that obvious and other people didn’t see it and walked in, to be told they were closed! Admittedly their clock was a few minutes slow but we waited until 10:15 and there was still no sign of opening? I found the Manner in which we were treated to be rude and arrogant, I assume that they rely on the fact that there are limited options around at that time? We did not give any of our custom to this establishment and instead, left and waited until the pub Port William opened for lunch, their service and attitude, was/is far better than the Strand Cafe. The owner should remember that they are only in business due to customers choosing to spend their money there and learn a bit of customer service or at least some manners!!!! Needless to say, we will never go there again!
Lovely cafe we loved the pasties and cups of tea.Food: 5/5
Delicious cakes including gluten free! The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, the cook even came out to explain that whilst they made the GF cakes as separately as possible and cleaned the area, they weren't made in a separate kitchen. In our opinion suitable for coeliacs unless very sensitive, this coeliac had no issues or side effects and enjoyed a delicious cake and tea by the sea. We'd go back.
The best pasties & very tasty coffee Vegetarian options: Cheese and onion pasty, non-dairy milk Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome
The loveliest place here. Miles better than next door or the pub on the hill. Super coffee, fresh cakes and wonderful sandwiches. Especial recommendation for the sausage roll!! Fresh out of the oven yum Also love the whole sustainable vibe, no plastic.
Had tea and cake served by Matthew the baker and manager. Orange and pistachio cake was delicious. Matthew was very helpful with tide information and friendly. Clean cafe with a good selection on the menu. Hot food available until 3pm or so, but hot pasties were still available until we left around 5:20pm. Didn't move us on despite closing around 5... Lovely experience. Thanks. I understand that there are new owners since April. Sounds a lot better now.
