The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum

About

The Stirling Smith, Stirling's free visitor attraction!

Story

The Stirling Smith is the home of a significant collection of rare and unique artefacts, spanning centuries of Scottish, British and World history. The collection is managed by the Smith's three full-time curatorial staff, and contains many remarkable objects, including a great many items of interest from the worlds of social history, ethnography, women's history, natural history, and fine art.

The Smith holds one of the most important collections in Scotland, and the exhibits which are on display are visited by guests from all over the world. We have a permanent exhibition on the premises, The Stirling Story, which recounts the history of the city of Stirling from its earliest origins through to present day.

This is a brilliant place full of great history and interesting things. An education for everyone from children to adults and there is always something new to see. This museum should remain open for all visitors whether British or visiting. The Smith institute is a valuable asset to Stirling. Really worth a visit and there is a great cafe.

Amazing..warm on that chilly day. Old stuff, lots to read and new and interactive stuff. Geography and history's together. Love the museum cat but have forgotten his name.

The main room here houses the story of Stirling and is laid out mainly in chronological order with whole bones from when the area was under the sea up to more recent items from local shops and services. Bits and bobs most kids from about 7yrs would find interesting with a good selection of dressing up clothes and a small area with drawing and other activities. The other rooms have changing exhibitions one of which is usually paintings. Did get a chance to try the cafe. The garden area out the back could be used for picnics. Top tip is that it's free admission and there is some limited free parking too.
