A lovely old pub, a short walk from the town centre, with parking through the archway and at the rear. 4 ladies I use that describe loosely and 2 dogs booked in for Sunday Roasts. Friendly staff, although it appeared there was only 2 staff working the bar, taking food orders and serving the food/clearing tables, another pair of hands would have been better as there were times the bar was not manned but customers were waiting for drinks. The two staff were rushed off their feet but did a great job. The 3 roast beef and 1 lamb roast dinner were soon polished off. We all really enjoyed the food, very tasty, good portions and served on warm plates. We really enjoyed our first visit to The Star Inn, we would all definitely return, especially as it’s dog friendly.
I've been meaning to write this review for ages to give my opinion on this fantastic pub. We've lived in the area now for about 18 months, and it's our regular haunt. The owner Bruce is a real gent, and he's got a great bar team to make sure the service you get is friendly and efficient. I'm vegan, so we hadn't eaten in here until very recently after I'd found out they'd added a vegan section to the menu - fantastic news! We went for dinner as a group of four adults and two children, and our guests agreed that all of the food we had was absolutely delicious. Keep up the great work Bruce and team, see you Friday
We were staying nearby and called in to this lovely pub with our dog; we received a wonderful warm welcome and had the most amazing food, there was some delicious Scottish specialties on the menu to mark Burns season, and my husband tried the haggis and I had the homemade steak pie. Omg absolutely delicious. Totally recommend this lovely pub!
Excellent food! Loved the scotch egg with the butternut squash, the lamb shank and the butter roast hake. The honeycomb cheesecake was amazing too; it’s part of the “today’s flavour” so if you see it on the menu you should certainly try it! Very friendly and polite people!
Excellent fish and chips. Really nice crunchy salad. Good value for money. Sadly no photo to show the gigantic piece of fish..
A little slapdash. Had a meal for the first time here and my lamb shank was very nice but could have done with mint sauce. The ploughman's was a different matter. I don't like mustard and the ham had mustard around the edges, not mentioned on the menu. The beef was raw and I took this for my cat. There wasn't any pork pie but something that resembled sausages and covered in some sauce which I didn't like, wasn't told they didn't have any pork pie. The salad was a small pot of chopped up salad, should have made more effort with the salad. The two young members of staff who served us were both wearing shorts which isn't very professional, especially when serving food. I wouldn't recommend eating at this pub as there are plenty of other ones which serve excellent food professionally. I don't find it easy to complain and spoil the evening so thought best to leave an honest review. We paid full price for the two meals but that's my fault for not complaining at the time. Just won't go there again and will let our friends know too.
Really nice location sets in the garden by the river nice seating area takeaway food only at the bottom... Sunday dinners inside look good... my fish and chips was terrible soggy and floppy batter and frozen French fry chips.. also ordered bread and butter but that never got served and it's a bit far to walk all the way back just for that... the blue black blue bottle flies were annoying it's a shame really because for £12.95 you'd expect a really good piece of fish... So I've given it a 4 star just for the settings. Outdoor garden bar was closed.
Pleasant pub. Great food especially the chips. Full marks to the chef who appeared to be doing all the cooking. Very helpful bar staff
Great lunch, friendly staff. Super atmosphere and good variety of items on te Sunday menu. We'll done!
It needs some attention, lovely spot down by the river but the tables are always full of empty glasses and the ground is littered with cigarette butts from emptied ash trays because no one cares to clean up. It feels dirty and is dirty.
