Drove 45 minutes to a highly rated dog friendly pub but really disappointed. Would not class as a pub, more restaurant as it was crammed full of diners. Only place to sit inside was at the bar or upon two totally knackered sofas which were not easily accessible due to a large table full of diners. We have a 10 month old puppy, who was a little vocal/excited and as such was asked to leave. If the pub had a clear defined bar/restaurant area as per the photos upon their website this would not have been a problem. If we had a 10 month old crying baby would the outcome have been the same? Would like to add we were at the pub no more than 20 minutes and the puppy was not barking the whole time! A pub that is food orientated and not wet led should not be advertised as dog friendly.

A really friendly and welcoming pub that's slightly off the beaten track in Hever, but definitely well worth the effort of going to find. From arrival, you'll notice the quaint friendly touches from the potted plant wellingtons on the stairs leading down to the pub, the open garden area with chairs and tables, or the cute signs welcoming people inside. As soon as you open the door, you're greeted by friendly, welcoming faces at the bar just in front, and regular patrons sitting there. Everyone is very friendly and it feels like a close knit group of friends and family. It's cosy and quaint inside, with wooden paneling and low ceilings and big comfy cushioned chairs around tables and by a fire. The tables are wooden and sturdy and the chairs are comfortable. Little details in the decor give it a warmth like drawings on the wall from kids in the nearby village, mini sculptures on shelves are books with big hardback covers, it all adds to the overall aesthetic. The menu is traditional pub food grub, so if you're hungry, this is a great place to come. Offering a starter, main and dessert courses with set menu options, there's plenty to choose from. I personally loved the Chicken Liver Parfait for a starter and the presentation was sublime! My friend had the Duck Liver Spring rolls and raved about tender the meat inside was. For a main, I went with a classic - Cumberland Sausage with Mash and Onion gravy and it was delicious. It came with fresh peas and it was heartily filling. The sausages were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crisp on the edges and tenderness in the middle and the mash was so creamy, it reminded me of my mum's mash at home. Me and my friend got a coffee after our meal and enjoyed sitting and letting the food digest. We never felt rushed throughout our stay, and the staff served us with a smile the entire time. Would definitely recommend coming (back) here if you're in the area!
