What a fabulous place! We had a gorgeous meal on a Saturday night. All the food was so tasty and beautifully presented, but the Chicken Kiev Pie yes, you read that right!! was amazing!! The staff were all friendly and clearly happy in their work. There was a band on for a Christmas Party, and it was a lovely addition. Can't wait to return during the day to see the view of the surroundings and enjoy another delight from the menu!!
Fantastic little place. Definitely pre-book a window table if you can, it's great to look out over the hills. Lovely simple home cooked food. Not many places serving a traditional rag pudding these days, but it didn't disappoint. If you like pie then it's definitely the thing to have, you have to wait a little longer as they're cooked from scratch, but well worth the wait. There were a couple of school-age waitresses so the service was sometimes a bit imperfect tried to clear away half full glass, forgot to bring cutlery, slow to take orders, but they were polite and considerate and the I assume boss was keeping them in check I saw him send one over to take orders because we'd been waiting a while. For me, this just adds to the charm of making it feel like a homely place. Price-wise pretty reasonable. I live in a city so am generally happy if my meal costs less than £20! Here meals were generally priced around £10-£15. Great little find, I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area!
Tonight was our third recent visit to The Shepherds Rest for the burger board. I think this speaks for itself! The food is delicious, the staff are equally lovely and they are very accommodating with our 2 children!! We can't wait to come back already!
I loved the place 10 stars for location 10 stars for the lovely and warm welcoming staff. The atmosphere is quiet even on Sundays. Please try the French goat cheese bon bons, I loved this dish! Sorry I can't show it on pictures but I eated them before realising it lol in the pic u can see the pudding which is great Come on ppl, just go there and give it a shot, you will love it.
Wow. Saw the facebook post for their mighty burger board for two. Thought we would try it and were amazed at the amount and quality for the money included a drink. There was three people in our party so managed to finish it but not sure 2 would have !
Amazing place! We booked for a meal, but got there a bit earlier and enjoyed a few drinks in the bar area next to the fire. Which was lovely on a very cold and wet day! We moved into the dining area for our meal and luckily for us, sat next to the big windows which gave us a great view of the fireworks! We shared a couple of the baldy’s pies, which are on another level! The service was excellent, and we really enjoyed the whole experience. We will definitely be back very soon!
Had an amazing Christmas day with my family. 8 of us were treated like royalty. Sorry its not my Google address this is from Nicola and family. Baby was poorly and crying but it didn't bother anyone. Absolutely worth every penny. We love this place anyway, food is amazing. Dad enjoyed his brandy and slept well that night. Thank you to all of you for making our day so special. We all hope you have a lovely new year and we will see you soon xx
Visited this lovely pub on Sunday. Beautiful location. The service and staff were first class. Very welcoming. I had the shepherds pie with veg. Probably one of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend it! . Well worth a visit if you're in the area
Visited here today for the first time. I had the pork roast dinner, my partner had shepherd’s pie and his mum had the Cumberland sausage. All dishes were delicious. The puddings were nice too. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely visit again!
I've just been on a long walk with the dog to find this pub at the bottom. Obviously, when we arrived, we were Hungary from the long walk and got told we couldn't order food because we had the dog as they refused to serve food outside or in the dog areas. So, I thought we could just order a hot drink, which cost £3.75, and it wasn't like filtered coffee or anything special. Was a rip-off. I bought coffee outside Buckingham Palace for far less than that. They must be taking advantage of the fact that there isn't anyone else around selling coffee Was a rip-off and a shame that they missed all that custom as there are a lot of dog walkers.
