About

We tell the story of the Royal Navy's submarine service.

Story

A visit to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport, Hampshire allows the visitor to dive into history and go onboard on our submarines which include Holland 1, the very first British submarine built in 1901 and the only surviving walk through WWII submarine in the UK - HMS Alliance with a veteran submariner to hear his stories about living beneath the waves.

What an amazing visit. The highlight was our tour of HMS Alliance from a veteran submariner, which gave real insight to life on the boat. It’s extremely interesting seeing the systems and equipment of that era, and hearing tales of life as a submariner decades ago.
An excellent museum of submarinar history to be explained and experienced.nSuperbly presented and displayed with lots of information about the Royal Navy Submarine Service.nI'd recommend visiting here
I thoroughly recommend a visit to this place. We had a guided tour of HMS Alliance and the gentleman who showed us round was brilliant. He'd served on board a submarine himself and really bought it to life. Alongside this the rest of the museum was great too
Amazing submarine, wow! Tour Guide Doug was informative, experienced and a lovely volunteer. Thank you Doug
Not very big but very interesting! You can see the first British submarine, HMS Holland, but also two submarines from WW II, HMS X24 and HMS Alliance. You can also find out a lot of information about life on board a submarine, how they are made, their missions and much more. Attention, even if you have already bought a ticket that includes all the objectives in Portsmouth Historic Dockyards and the museums in Gosport, to visit the most interesting exhibit HMS Alliance, you must first enter the museum building, at the ticket office, to make an appointment visit entry is only in small groups, at certain time intervals.
