Took a boat trip from the historical dockyard to visit this awesome museum.. Naval firepower through the ages. Never thought I'd ever see an actual nuclear bomb or missile.nThe size of some of the artillery shells will surprise non military visitors. There are numerous exhibits so allow plenty of time.nCafe and souvenir shop on site.
What a wonderful experience it was to visit this place , the guide Gavin Mackey took it to another level by explaining every single detail with so much enthusiasm that we got carried away in the actual build of these explosives , the museum is one of the best places to visit in the Portsmouth historic dockyard, and would surely rate is the best with Gavin, kids will surely love him as he explains every detail of the kids queries . Would surely recommend this place and give it a very very good visit
Friendly , enthusiastic, informative staff. Good for children. A find the mouse sheet for children as looking around as well s guided tour. We chose to walk atoubd separately as tour is 90 mins and having children felt they would prefer freedom to explore at their own pace! Model club with lovely people in on site too. Coffee shop on site. Boats from Portsmouth Dockyard included in annual pass. You have 2 hours to explore between boats and 3.15 last boat back.
Highly recommend having the private tour.nIt is included in the ticket and it opens a whole new fascinating world about explosions, amunition and the history of it.nOur guide, Gavin, was so insightful and had a lovely way of narrating and delivering the information. It really was an unexpected highlight of the trip, must visit!
An interesting meuseum;Well laid out and exhibits and info boards detailednHowever touch screen information poor/ frizen/ not working or in some places no screen!!nWe're rather surprized as reviews 4 to 5 months ago indicate screens nit working.nWe entered with dockyard yearly pass and would suggest to visit thus meuseuem a complete yearly dockyard pass better value.nStaff friendly.nCafe has short opening hours and coastal torpedo boats exhibit shuts earlier than explosion exhibit ..so check times!!nOverall enjoyed exp in particular the locker room and what some woman got up to!!nWould have spent longer if computerised info exhibits reliable.nTo note if you like beer monkey powder brewery right next door and offers food and flights of ale with goid views over towards Portsmouth Historical dockyard.
