Very nice rooms. Ensuit and all usual accessories etc. The major drawback is lots of stairs!! 5 sets of stairs to get to second floor. Very hard climb. I'm disabled so makes it very difficult. Food nice. Hotelier nice. I'm here for two months so will have to take it slowly and not forget anything in my room and have to go back!! Rooms: Clean and attractive. Usual accessories Nearby activities: Close to sea front and Very close to swimming pool and leisure centre + car park. Town shops etc immediately outside of main doors. and seafront access just behind the leisure centre. Town church across the road where carparks are situated. Very useful position for anyone. Safety: Property is very secure. Lock front door and rooms. Keys issued for both. Feels safe when inside Walkability: Easy walk of all shops, cafes, leisure activities and seafront. Food & drinks: Breakfast included in price and dinner etc available if and when required. This is a working pub and restaurant as well. Noteworthy details: Pet friendly-pay extra. Assistance dogs are accepted free
We booked for Xmas lunch @ 2pm and finally were seated at 3pm, we asked numerous times when our table would be ready but were fobbed off. Starters were brought out without asking what we wanted. So we went straight for the mains. The dinner was a Carvery with 3 meats, fried roast potatoes which were hard, cauliflower cheese, a mixture of cabbage, hard carrots, Brussels, & sweetcorn The peas and Yorkshire ‘s had run out and the food was basically cold. I had to ask the carver for salmon & onion gravy which came at the end of my meal. Xmas dinner is supposed to be special , and the Royal hotel was sadly lacking. We asked for and received a full refund. Never again
A very pleasant stay for four nights in a family-run hotel. A quiet break out of season gave us the opportunity to enjoy personally-prepared dinners. The price was appropriate for the level of comfort. The location is a stone’s throw away from the town centre and railway station while a two-minute walk leads you to a Blue Flag beach. The hotel, which is a listed building, has much character appeal, although some of the décor could do with updating. This is not a hotel of flat-pack standardised furniture that gets ripped out and replaced every few months. Some furniture was quite dated and the shower initially had a small leak this was immediately rectified, but all was in good working order and, most importantly, clean. Often such buildings are quite cold, however this was not the case here and despite staying mid Spring, no expense was spared on heating. The staff are fantastic and no request is too much bother, whether it is extra towels, herbal teas or advice on finding a local garage. The breakfasts are hearty and dinner is a la carte and cooked to order, with traditional pub classics on the menu, as well as Sri Lankan specialities. Our stay coincided with Tamil New Year and we were treated to a delicious rice Kiribati. Alex and Olga
We really recommend going and staying with the lovely Royal hotel. For us it was a lovely local place brilliant food with a brilliant chef. Lovely bath! We enjoyed every minute no matter what they was brilliant no matter how busy they always listened. Thank you we hope to come and stay soon!
The staff at the royal hotel are amazing people and are willing to help you with any requirements and the food is absolutely excellent and their sunday carvery is very superb and its well worth a look in if u ever passing this fantastic hotel and bar has wicked atmosphere and the staff are what makes it feel like your with familyRooms: 5/5
Royal by name, but certainly not by nature! Never mind. It's comfortable enough, and they do a decent full English breakfast. Auto-activated sensor lights in the ensuite bathroom is a bit unconventional, and not really what you want. Also, the parking situation is that you need to use the local authority ones nearby, which are Pay-and-display during the daytime. It's not a deal-breaker. Just be aware. Very good large TV screen in the room.
The room was clean and neat. There was live entertainment in the pub and was a fun evening, the food was good and well priced.Rooms: 5/5

Not a bad pub at all quite lively and good selection of drinks no port Not a reflection on the place but had something put in my drink that ruined my night with limited motor function and a total blackout until morning luckily I was with my partner who got me home when she noticed the change in my behaviour. Would of happened when we went outside and I stupidly left my glass on the edge of the stage. Keep an eye on your drinks guys and girls wherever you end up
