An award winning 14th Century thatched smugglers inn overlooking a tiny picturesque harbour and Lynmouth Bay! Contact us - 01598753223

Story

Many years ago a wise person built an inn near the harbour in Lynmouth (original buildings are 14th century) and this has been called the Rising Sun for many years. Now the inn and the adjoining cottages, which once were homes for fishermen, now comprise the Rising Sun Hotel.

The Rising Sun hotel has a wealth of crooked staircases, narrow passageways, sloping floors and low beams and is thought to have once been a smugglers inn. The hotel now has modern facilities but still retains all of its old world charm.

I called in 'on spec' on a Saturday early evening and they were able to seat me. The food was absolutely delicious; pork belly, followed by an ice-cream and Amaretto based dessert. Top quality food, well worth the price. A good selection of ales too. Highly recommended.
Stayed here for a weekend and it was an excellent stay, lovely room with a nice bathroom. The location is perfect right on the seafront, there is a pay and display carpark a short walk away. The restaurant is very good but small so definitely book if you want to eat there.
Went down with my daughter and dog.. beautiful pub/restaurant the food was stunning and well presented. Staff were amazing and it wasn't an expensive meal. 5*
Did not stay here but visited lunch time after a long walk. There were three of us and I ordered two sandwiches to share. A slow cooked hoisin belly pork with crispy cabbage and a local beef and cheese. Both came with a little side of beautifully cooked chips. Big door step slices of good white bread. They were not cheap but we all agreed that they were the best sandwiches we’ve ever had. Well done Rising Sun.
The website was misleading- stating they had a seafood restaurant. The promotional video showed a trawler fishing for lobster and crab!?! But none on their menu. There was only one fish choice ‘fish of the day’? Served as fish and chips!nI could not recommend this Pub/BaB/restaurant. I booked and paid for two nights but only stayed for one.
