Story

Many years ago a wise person built an inn near the harbour in Lynmouth (original buildings are 14th century) and this has been called the Rising Sun for many years. Now the inn and the adjoining cottages, which once were homes for fishermen, now comprise the Rising Sun Hotel.

The Rising Sun hotel has a wealth of crooked staircases, narrow passageways, sloping floors and low beams and is thought to have once been a smugglers inn. The hotel now has modern facilities but still retains all of its old world charm.

Fabulous food, simple menu but very well executed. Wonderful sandwiches. Also had some really fresh oysters. Just what we needed on a cold day. Great location right on the coast. Nice beer too. Very accommodating staff, we were a large party of 16, that they were able to seat together without notice. We made to feel welcome by the very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Very friendly and welcoming. The staff were helpful and very friendly. Simple menu but absolutely stunning food. The belly pork was fantastic. Would love to eat there again.

Really lovely food at reasonable price. Very fresh tasty home made food would visit again. Not a massive selection and probably not suitable for children as grown up food but perfect for me thanks.

Very old building with lots of ale on offer - a great place for drink. If you are looking for a pint of Exmoor ale this place has a lot on draught and the staff were really friendly. If you sit outside the front you have views over the harbour coastline.

Beautiful old place. Lovely setting. Staff friendly and accommodating. Great food, and absolutely beautiful surroundings. We can't wait to go back
