I needed my usual gym work out and a swim after 6 days of walking and sightseeing as I'd got withdrawal symptoms. Staff were very helpful and so were the other gym members as it took me a while to sort out keys, codes, my way around, wristbands etc. Gym was great, got my 75 minutes in and loved the lane swimming especially. That's my favourite kind of pool because I can gauge the length of the pool by how long I can swim under water. Changing rooms all cubicles and mixed gender. What a great idea, times have changed for the better as when I was a single parent and my wild son was too old to come into the changing rooms with me in Birmingham I had to stop taking him swimming which was much a shame. Found the private showers too and the fab little hairdryers so no going out with chlorine all over me which was a bonus.nnNoticed there was a really nice cosy cafe and a cinema too, it seemed a really great family venue, impressive.
Sold me a multi gym membership to use across the various islands in Orkney but failed to share with me that there main gym in Kirkwall Pickaquoy the one i was at when signing up closes often for various reasons. On top of this, when wanting to use the gyms on the small Islands in Orkney which i visit often during the days you must come to the gym as a pair despite signing up on my own. These issues have meant i have been unable to train consistently like I usually do at my local gym in south of England. I tried to speak to the leisure team on the phone 5-6 times with each time no one picking up the phone in their department. So i have decided to leave my complaint in the form of a review. I am so disappointed with the level of access, not something i have experienced before when a member at a gym.
Their cafe is brilliant. The staff are wonderful. Most of the time it is a spacious and quiet place to enjoy a coffee. Saturdays are usually busy though. The food there is great. The salads in a tortilla basket are certainly worth a try but in my mind the full breakfast is the best in Orkney, and it's a fantastic deal. The exercise facilities, climbing wall, pool, racket Sports, and various exercise classes are all top notch and it is a great place to get fit or hang out at the health suite. I'm probably biased because I spend loads of time here but it's a fantastic place.
The Pickaquoy Centre was amazing! We visited the the climbing wall in the hall and had a fantastic time, we met some staff there and they were awsome and we will be keeping in touch! Really great place, worth a visit!
Not sure what this place is like for its activities but I know it does have a large pull and climbing wall, along with a bouldering cave which you cannot gain entrance to until you've had an 'induction' . I came to the centre to speak at an event. If you're thinking of hiring for a corporate event I was recommend that you do not hire the Grainery room when the cinema is on next door. The studio however, seemed to work really well, until the air conditioning came on and delegates could not hear at the back. It's still a good central venue and the staff done all they can to make the event a huge success.
