I grew up by the sea but never tried surfing and I found Women and Waves on social media. I threw caution to the wind and thought why not, I was one of the oldies at 46, but I didn’t feel out of place. Monica and all the team were very welcoming helpful and well organized. The instructors were great, and groups were small, so you always felt safe and looked after. The equipment was new and in good condition and I was a little concerned the wetsuit would not fit, but it was perfect. I shall be investing! I now feel confident enough, that I could go and hire a board and enjoy myself in the water on my own. The course is professional and clearly everyone has a great passion for what they do and that comes across. I would have loved a Women and Waves Dry Robe but the last one was nabbed before I could get my hands on it, so please do order some more!!!! Hopefully I will be able to book into the bodyboarding in November, I think Newquay would be nice in winter. The only thing I would say is make sure you have a coffee/tea before you go in the morning, a 7am start is tough without one! I shall be back, with friends
Had an absolutely amazing experience with women and waves! Could not recommend them enough! I am so inspired by all the women I met on the trip including both coaches Rachel and Courtenay ! Everyone was so supportive and encouraging! The whole trip was beautifully organised and didn’t really have to do anything! Just had to be there! 100% doing another and would recommend to anyone to join me! Thanks again Rachel and Courtenay you guys are absolute legends! and when I grow up I want to be you guys!
Just getting home from an epic Intermediate Surf trip to El Salvador with this crew. I went in super nervous about my ability, and insecure about the things I needed to work on and learn, but as soon as I arrived and got settled in I knew I was with the right people! Not only did we get group surf skate lessons to help us with turning efficiency, group video analysis, and group lessons in the water, also they took their time with each and every one of us as individuals to make sure we were understanding and doing the right movements. I will definitely be booking again for another trip — I walked away with at least a years worth of surf education I can apply to my daily sessions at home.
The Secret Morocco trip in September 2022 was one of the best trips I have ever been on. Rachel powerhouse boss babe with the funniest stories you’ve ever heard and Kirsty coach to the stars, ultimate hype woman and possibly the best dancer I have ever met led the trip, and made the rest of us feel so welcome, and so included throughout the entirety of the trip. Nothing was too much for them, they were available and ready answer questions and queries through the whole week, whether it was 6am or at the end of a long day of surfing and dancing on a rooftop. They also made sure we had plenty of activities to do when we weren’t shredding the glassy green mounds of Morocco, making sure we had time to experience the local culture without ever feeling like an intrusive tourist. In terms of coaching, they had our entire group progressing by consistently and confidently over the course of the week. We each had specific goals we could work on each day, but were also encouraged to let go and just surf for fun whenever we felt like it. Women and Waves have perfected the art of cultivating a safe, confident and empowering atmosphere within their female surf groups, so much so that I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw our whole group on Dragon’s Den or Love Island due to our new found levels of confidence and sass unlocked by Rachel and Kirsty. We surfed, ate like queens, surfed, chatted, made friendships, surfed, visited markets and hammams, surfed, danced on rooftops and stargazed and surfed. I cannot wait to do it all again, you absolutely have to do a Women + Waves trip stop reading this essay of a review and get to it!!
I've been trying to learn to surf for years and have taken lessons with a variety of different surf schools, but Women + Waves has hands down been the best experience I've had! The team members were so dedicated to making sure you came away with more confidence and a positive experience. They help you set goals and meet them, and have an amazing time in the process! The all-women environment is extremely supportive, and I left with not only a new set of skills in the water but new surfing friends!
The best surfing weekend I have ever had in my life. I understood that surfing is not only about waves but also about communication, supporting each other, being patient, and being kind to yourself. Freddy, our great instructor and the whole team helped me understand all of this. Thank you, woman and waves. I will see you soon!
I’m so pleased I did the Women + Waves Progressor weekend in the beautiful Gower Peninsula, Wales September 25-26. From the initial interaction with the team, to getting in the water and surfing, the level of professionalism and support displayed by the Women + Waves team was exceptional. The friendly bunch of expert instructors and photographers, and their leading lady Rachel were so welcoming and some of the most kindhearted women I’ve ever met! They surely delivered a pressure-free and epic weekend. Our wonderful instructor Kirsty catered to everyone's individual needs. She assessed our current abilities and helped us advance with the fundamentals in improving on our surfing both in and out of the water. She knows her stuff! Everyone was smashing it on both days. So stoked with the professional photos and footage taken by the wonderful and talented Sarah! I’d learned so much from them. They’ve helped me improve on my own personal goals in my paddling techniques, backhand turns, etiquette, general ocean awareness and confidently paddling out back to catch green waves, and more. I’ve seen some great results in my progression onto the next stage of my surfing journey since. Two days, three awesome surf sessions, in-depth video analysis, performance enhancing surf theory discussions, …and much more, this was worth every penny! Cannot recommend Women + Waves highly enough. A world of thanks for an unforgettable surfing experience, good times and chill vibes, I will definitely be coming back!
Such a fabulous weekend full of knowledgable and inspirational women. From incredible instructors Kirsty and Saskia, amazing photographers with the beadiest of eyes Sarah! and amazing motivation and organisation Monica and Rachel Thankyou for teaching me so much technical stuff, giving us lots of stretch/yoga videos and such a positive atmosphere all weekend!
Another epic weekend from women and waves. Jumping up to the intermediate level course I was feeling a bit nervous - but the instructors were first class. They made me feel at ease, let me change my boards around until I was catching more waves! Sophie from Sweden was particularly helpful in the water - building my confidence out back in the bigger sets and I noticed a significant improvement in my surfing throughout the day because of it. And as ever, Rachel was on hand with her expert knowledge. I found our chat about board selection particularly helpful. Sophie the instructor kept us all in line - in the line up ; which was helpful for learning about positioning on the wave relevant to your board size. And Sarah, as always, took some epic shots - which is so fundamental to the learning process. This was my second weekend with the women and waves team - and I’m sure I’ll be back again. Thank you for a great weekend.
The best weekend ever! I cannot recommend Women + Waves enough! For someone with anxiety, it was a massive step for me to book and attend a weekend like this but there was no need to worry. From the minute I arrived I felt so welcome and relaxed and this continued throughout the whole weekend! My instructor Kirsty was so amazing & so friendly, I had a smile on my face all weekend! She also had so many good tips to improve my surfing and I am stoked with how far I’ve come! Our photographer Sophie was so supportive and took lovely photos for us to enjoy also! I loved making friends and spending time together as a group at the evening meal. I’m so sad it’s come to an end but I will 100% be back for more! If you are debating whether to book a weekend with these women, DO IT! You won’t regret a minute! Thank you Women & Waves for making me feel so welcome and for so much fun! X
