We know it best for its excellent pie, mash and gravy. Makes a good lunch spot or early supper. Good range of real ales. An old fashioned atmosphere with very friendly staff. All in all strongly recommended.

My daughter Grandson and I went for lunch. Young lady behind the bar was very nice and polite. The food however was NOT! First there was no fish, so my daughter ordered a burger which she could not eat as it was so tasteless. I ordered the pea & ham soup, didn't seem to have any ham in my soup at all.. quite tasteless, doused it with vinegar to improve the taste. My daughter spoke to the young lady behind the bar and was refunded for her food. Lovely open fire, i do appreciate that this causes dust...but very dusty and grubby in the room we were aat in. Would NOT recommend and will not return.

Sausage and creamy mash with gravy really good. Fun atmosphere on a Friday night. Great beer selection! Service for food very slow. We were there an hour before getting our food. If you’ve got the time, worth the wait. Lasagne was ok but not great

Bottom line, old school proper pub with best beers, a pub dog (Arthur) and the best outdoor smoking area ever. Oh and a fine gin selection.

Very good Sunday Lunch. I was expecting a standard carvery, but it was better than that, and well presented. Veggies were arranged on the plate and were the right size, not piled high&low quality. Home made treacle tart for dessert was great. Outside there is a proper horse shoe shy - a pole in the ground you try and hoop the shoes on. A very good family garden too.
