The Millhouse Care Home is truly wonderful, and it is difficult to put into words just how exceptional it is.nnOur dad moved into Millhouse a couple of months ago following a hospital stay and a period of respite care. When he first arrived, he was frightened, disorientated, sad, angry and extremely confused. Now, when we visit, we see our calm, content and funny dad again, and that is entirely thanks to the team at The Millhouse.nnEvery member of staff is genuinely kind and caring, and nothing ever feels like too much trouble. They have created a warm, homely environment and are always so welcoming. If you arrive at the right time, you may even be offered a cup of tea and a slice of delicious cake.nnThe activities are fantastic. The coordinators are always busy planning engaging events, thoughtfully tailored to residents’ needs and interests. You can clearly see how much people enjoy them. I have visited other care homes where activities seem to be put on simply to tick a box, but that is not the case at Millhouse. Here, providing residents with an enjoyable and meaningful life is clearly a priority.nnWhat really sets Millhouse apart is its person-centred approach. Each resident is seen as an individual. The staff look beyond the dementia and take time to understand the person underneath: their history, personality, likes and dislikes. Care is never delivered as a tick-box exercise. It is thoughtful, timely and always carried out in a way that protects the resident’s dignity.nnThe home itself is well organised and runs smoothly. Staff genuinely enjoy spending time with residents, and it shows. The management team is visible, hands-on and very much part of daily life, working alongside staff and engaging with residents. Bec is often seen giving Dad a big cuddle, which means so much to us.nnThe food is freshly cooked, delicious and clearly enjoyed. Dad had lost a lot of weight when he first arrived, but the staff took time to understand how best to encourage him to eat, and he is now thriving.nnAs a qualified Occupational Therapist, I have visited many care homes, and I can honestly say that The Millhouse stands above them all for dementia care.nnWe feel incredibly lucky that our dad is there. The team has supported him through a very difficult time and brought him back from a very dark place. Special thanks must go to Toni, who built a rapport with Dad from the very first meeting. She is kind, caring and incredibly patient. She persevered and got to know the real Ian, despite being shouted at on many occasions! He is now happy, calm, full of humour and content.nnThe staff have also supported us as a family. They are always happy to talk about how Dad is getting on, share little stories, and offer comfort on the difficult days. There is always someone nearby with kindness, reassurance and care.nnI wholeheartedly recommend The Millhouse. It is a truly exceptional home for people living with dementia, and the care provided is outstanding. We will always be deeply grateful.
I would like to leave a review as a past member of the team. I really enjoyed my time at the mill house. I only left as I moved out of the area and the commute wasn’t an option with it being so far. I loved both the staff and residents. No two days were the same just like no two shifts were the same. I had the pleasure of working with a great team and we cared for our residents like they were an extension of our own families. To see them smile when various activities were happening was amazing. I had a great relation ship with the management team. You could approach them with anything.nJust to finish off I loved my time there.
Mum has been a resident at The Mill House since August 2021. Her room is a good size, always kept clean & tidy and we have been allowed to personalise it with items from home. Mum isn’t the best at eating or drinking but staff will monitor her intake & also go above & beyond to cook her something she will eat. Activities within the home have increased a lot recently from singers, armchair keep fit, lollipop ponies, cooking and painting to name but a few. The staff have done fantastic work with Mum to help her settle in and they have also supported the family with this. They have a hairdressing salon on site, regular podiatry visits and great links with the local GP surgery. We also have regular relative meetings; you can call to at any point to check on your relative and you are also called when there are any medical changes you need to be aware of. If you want a smaller more family run care home, where the staff know you and your family by name then Mill House is the one for you. The decision to put my mum in a care home was the hardest we have ever made, but I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for fantastic care for their loved one. It is so nice the see the relationships she has built with the staff, and for her to now happily wave us off when we leave. All you want for your parent is for them to feel safe & happy and without a doubt this is the stage my mum is at now. All credit to the staff.

I had the good fortune in finding Mill House, to care for a dear friend. I had the privilege and peace of mind, observing how well they cared for my friend and all other residents throughout the 14 months my friend was there. I had the honour of getting to know, love and respect the amazing staff. I very much felt part of the Mill House family. So much so, that when my friend passed away, I did not want to lose contact with the staff and residents. It is my intention to become a volunteer, helping as required.nThe Mill House is an absolute hidden gem. The love, care and attention offered by the staff is indescribable. The events/crafts held are so thoughtful and wide ranging to ensure the stimulation, well being and happiness of all residents.nI cannot recommend highly enough and will be forever grateful to what became Marjorie’s new family.nGren Spriggs
