Calico Jacks, back once again!

If your ‘clubbing’ days were between 1995 and 2000, you will undoubtfully be familiar with a little hot spot called Calico Jacks at the Marine Court Hotel on Bangor’s seafront. Every Saturday Night the little nautical themed nightclub was rammed with party goers, with the front door usually having to close around 11pm. The success of the venue most likely came down to a few things; friendly staff, great décor and a wonderful party atmosphere created by former Energy 106 DJ Danny Dee. He played everything under the sun, from 80s to 90s and the dance music of the day that we now fondly remember as ‘Old Skool’. DJ Tony Sheridan also filled the place on Friday nights.

Well, good news! It’s all back! Every Saturday night from February 2013, DJ Danny Dee is back in the DJ box promising to revive that all so wonderful ‘party vibe’. The promoters have been lucky enough to secure him as resident, as he’s been quite busy over the last 13 years. Belfast pirate radio station Energy 106 snapped him up in 1998, and he was ‘on air’ till 2005 when the station closed. “Calico Jacks is where it all really began for me” says Danny about the venue, “I started DJing in 1989, but it wasn’t until I got my first lucky break in 95’ at Calicos that my career began to grow. I played there every weekend for 5 years until the radio station took off and demanded my full attention. I’ve been working around the province ever since”. Danny goes on to say, “I’m really looking forward to coming back to where it all started. I intend to play all the 80s & 90s classics again, along with some Old Skool numbers, but I’ll also be playing the big chart hits of today as well. Gotta move with the times too!”

So if you remember partying it up at Calico Jacks back in the day, head on down any Saturday Night. Admission is free, and the doors open at 9:30pm. You just might see some friendly faces from your past, or that one bullet you dodged!! ;)
