Such a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great selection of beers we visited mid week as we wanted to enjoy a child free evening. Will definitely be backRooms: 5/5
Beer is good. 3 real ales regular rotated. Old school boozer no fancy food frequented by locals.
The London Inn is an oldish pub in the Centre of Ottery St Mary. As a pub it is full of friendly residents and anyone who likes genuine locals will love this one. Exceptionally good selection of good west country real ale.The food is hearty, old fashioned and very cheap. Real home cooking. Again if you like this. I do. The rooms are also a bit old fashioned but very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent, or at least the full English is! Prices right for what you get. Landlord and landlady are friendly; it is impossible not to get involved with the locals. I loved the place, and am going back next month. I hope it's the sort of thing you would like, if not, that I've told you enough to make a choice.
If you're looking for a friendly and welcoming pub go somewhere else. My partner and I called in for a drink after a long journey and were made to feel about as welcome as a dose of the Clap by the landlord. The other two customers in the place were having a conversation about burial plots. I'll say no more......
Great local in a fairly recently restored mid 17th century listed coaching inn right in middle of Ottery. It was my local in my youth, and hasn't changed much in 40 years, so I'll keep popping in from time to time to keep an eye on this much loved pub! Has two bars, one with a large TV, the other cosier and larger - food served in both. Has an extensive pub menu and the food is both tasty and beautifully presented - excellent pub food at very reasonable prices. Usual range of drinks, plus a very good offering of local cask conditioned bitters and guest ales. A member of CAMRA, it's a great place to stop off for a pie and a pint. There is a pool room, function room and live music is regularly promoted. It is also a B&B which, by all accounts, offers a great night plus hearty breakfast. Car park out the back, St Mary's church up the hill, all very convenient! Highly recommended.
We arrived in Ottery St Mary late on a Friday night to stay for the weekend. After finding our digs we went in search of somewhere to get a quick bite to eat, and chose The London Inn. It is what I would call an old fashioned proper pub, with card games, proper ales and a decent menu of basic but good food at reasonable prices. Even though we came in at almost 8.55pm, we were still able to order food. Ham egg and chips times three, so nothing too demanding, but none the less delicious and made with proper thick slices of ham and homemade chips. My Dad tried a pint of the Independence ale and I had half a St. Austell, both yummy. The furnishings were a bit tired and the carpet has seen better days, but the atmosphere was great, it's obviously a popular haunt with the locals and that says a lot in my book. So if you're looking for somewhere no-nonsense and friendly look no further.
We had a lovely lunch here with family, the food was excellent, very tasty, well presented and brilliant value for money. Spotlessly clean with friendly staff who went out of their way to provide my husband with a gluten free meal. A definite one to re-visit.
Great pub! The London Inn has just been awarded a certificate as it's been judged as CAMRA's Exeter & East Devon branch Urban Pub Of The Year. There's always a good choice of well kept real ales on the bar. The food here is also very good, I had the home made fish pie which was superb.
Good pub. We popped in for a quiet afternoon drink. We found traditional pub decor, some well kept pints and a peaceful break from the family.
A lovely old pub with good honest to goodness food. Great value and a extremely warm welcome. Try it. Often music too!
