Update: I’ve now been a member for 7 years and all what I said 6 years ago below are still true today. A very happy member of The Lab.nnThe Lab is a great gym, spa and health club. I’ve been a member for a year now and always look forward to going there! There is a lovely swimming pool, and the gym floor has leafy views very pleasing to the eye. The equipments of the gym and their class variety are alright for my expectations although I’ve seen gyms that offer even more. I’ve never used their beauty treatments but it’s good to know they have these facilities.nThe staff are very professional, friendly and welcoming. Their cafe, with an Italian chef, is an extra bonus with great coffee and light food choices.nUpdate: I love the fact it is located on top of a hill in a beautiful garden, but there is no public transport that takes you there.nIt’s my little sanctuary that makes me feel relaxed as soon as I walk in and feel great every time I leave!nKeep up the good work team Laboratory! Thank you.
The Laboratory is truly a melting pot of people of all ages, cultures, and fitness levels. It's set against a backdrop of beautifully maintained gardens, which deserve serious praise. The staff genuinely seem to enjoy their work, always offering a warm hello or goodbye, and that positive energy really adds to the experience.nnThe café is a gem, perfect whether you're just a bit peckish or in need of a proper meal. Add in the sun loungers, co-working spaces, convenient parking with car wash, spacious lockers with hangers, and thoughtful touches like hair straighteners and hair accessories and Mill Hill’s lovely toiletries in the women’s changing rooms, which I am sure Muswell Hill will replicate whrn the renovation is complete, there’s so much attention to detail.nnMuswell Hill’s jacuzzi is like a massage in itself, now consistently working like a dream. And the UV pool is an absolute treat, especially on a hot day. Cool, refreshing, and invigorating.nnOf course, no place is perfect. There are always small things that could be tweaked. But in my experience, once you raise an issue, it’s usually addressed quickly and efficiently.nnTo have access to a space like this feels like a safe haven. I genuinely cherish it and would recommend it wholeheartedly.nnP.S. A special shout-out to the jasmine-lined bushes at the entrance. What a beautiful touch. Big applause to the gardeners, the staff, the PTs, and the management team. You’re doing a fantastic job.
I have been a member of Laboratory Spa for over 30 years with occasional breaks.nI have always found the staff, equipment and physical trainers excellent. I attend 3-4 times a week, primarily for aqua classes, the most suitable form of exercise for my age.nI am extremely disappointed in is the state of the Changing Rooms, which cannot have been renovated for many years. These are very damp areas and there is now significant mould in many areas of the female changing room - I cannot verify what the state is of the men’s changing room. Mould is a health hazard……when, I ask is it going to be dealt with?nNatalie Baskin
The Lab Spa and Health Club is easily accessible but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of London and boasts a prime location on top of a hill. The leafy views from the gym floor provide a natural setting and the cafe/juice bar overlooks a beautifully maintained garden.nnInitial point of contact on phone or at the entrance is always polite. Seems that the front of house service hinges very much on the professionalism of Celine the multi-tasking and super efficient Reception Supervisor.nnThe Juice Bar serves an interesting menu with hearty light lunches and really good coffee.nnAll classes can be booked on the very slick app. Instructors are very knowledgeable. Two stand out classes for me are Hatha Yoga with Julia and Yoga/Pilates/Chiropractic with Julian.nnIn recent months I've made more use of the gym and realised I needed guidance from one of the many experienced fitness coaches. The Personal Trainer I stumbled upon has patiently guided me through thoughtfully planned and effective exercise programmes in a safe and supportive way and not wavered in ensuring every session is varied and challenging.nnLooking beyond the odd thing that does sometimes go wrong, I'd say that the general ambience, dedication of staff as well as the excellent facilities on offer far outweigh the odd hiccup that occasionally occurs in this otherwise wondrous Health and Fitness sanctuary in Muswell Hill.
I am really disappointed in how the spa rennovations have been handled. I joined the lab spa to use the spa facilities as the name implies!- there are plenty of cheaper gyms and pools around to join otherwise. While spa facilities are out of use until September, I expected it was reasonable to pause my membership. I understand for other members who use the gym, classes etc. this won't be necessary, but I have this membership for the spa facilities specifically and dont use the gym. But not only is Lab Spa charging members money each month to pause during the rennovatilns, it seems the pausing fee has actually gone up during this time - which feels like it is designed purely to discourage it and to make more money out of us. All I want is to pause my membership until the facilities I am paying to use are open again without having to pay £120 40x3 for the inconvience of not being able to use the spa I'm a member of- why is that not possible?nIt says a lot about how they value their members, and I would strongly encourage people to think twice before joining. Hopefully this can be resolved!
