The King's School

Story

The King's School is a Church of England secondary school with academy status in Peterborough, England. It also offers a "Junior Department" which consists of Year Three to Year Six education, partially selective and with one-form entry. JD takes part in the building also used for Music, Madeley House. The school is one of seven established, re-endowed or renamed, by King Henry VIII in 1541 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries for the education of "twenty poor boys". The King's School was recognised in June 1999 with the award of Beacon status. As of 21 March 2013, the school holds the Ofsted rating of Outstanding.NameOn 1 January 2011, the School became an academy and changed its name to "The King's School". Previously, it had been named "The King's School, Peterborough". It is still sometimes known as "KSP". Students commonly refer to it simply as 'Kings'.HistoryFoundationThe King's School is a state-funded secondary school, with a large sixth form. It was founded by King Henry VIII in 1541 as the Cathedral School to educate 'twenty poor boys' and this close link with the Peterborough Cathedral is still valued and maintained today. Until 1976 the school was a Church of England grammar school for around 450 boys, also known as Peterborough Cathedral Grammar School. 1976 saw the school become both comprehensive and coeducational. Until 1997, however, there remained provision for boys to board. It is one of only three Anglican cathedral schools in the UK to be funded through the state system. The other two Anglican state-funded cathedral schools are Bristol Cathedral Choir School and The Minster School ( the choir school of the Cathedral Church of Southwell Diocese: Southwell Minster in Nottinghamshire.) There are also two state-funded Roman Catholic choir schools: St Edward's College in Liverpool and the London Oratory.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at this school and could not dream of going anywhere else. Teachers are supportive and act on how we feel towards their lessons and A diverse array of students from all over the globe means I am always learning something new, education wise and socially. So many opportunities have been opened to me through Kings. SO thankful to go here.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the King's School. There is a very good teacher-student relationship, the teaching is superb and the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. I've heard rumours from people outside of King's about the school favouring white people but, as an East-Asian, I have never seen any proof of this from my experience inside King's. I've also heard complaints that the reason King's School students have good results is because they were selectively chosen, but seeing as only ten students per year get in via the entry exam and all others are chosen through other means, this complaint does not hold water. I was not chosen through the entry exam, yet am doing very well result-wise, with thirteen GCSEs, twelve of which were A or A*. This is what you can expect from King's School quality teaching.

This school is amazing! I wish I could go there. I've heard a few things about this school, though. Apparently, they favor white people over coloured people? Is this true?
