Fantastic location and good selection of beers. We booked for dinner and food was delicious and authentically German. Friendly staff and the bonus of being completely dog friendly and allowed in the dining room, which makes it special when on holiday or after a walk. Helpful and accommodating to a severe peanut allergy. Will definitely be back.
This is not about the pub but its attached camp site. OK if you are used to wild camping, otherwise best to avoid. A small, wet field, with no shelter and poor facilities. There is a single toilet/shower room with no lighting and we were told that the water is not safe to drink. Since there is no outside tap, we had to go into the pub and beg for our water bottles to be filled. The cleaner was helpful and friendly, the owners much less so.
Lovely welcome from Wolfgang who's German and wears lederhosen! Lots of German lagers and beers to choose from as well as German food. The camping field was great like butter and stone free as were the shower facilities. Could be a queue for the shower though if it's really busy. Wolfgang will even drop you off at the setting off point of the C2C/Cleveland Way to save you from trudging up the road! Friendly staff and locals, and the food was amazing. I had a naked burger and it was freshly made and huge!
Friendly place to go if you are in Chop Gate. Good food and lovely service. We had the Sunday lunch which was just what we needed after a long walk on the hill. Venison was delicious as was the lamb.
How an excellent Spring fest in aid of Mountain Rescue. Good by the band, Bagpipe player and Guitarist. We stayed over night in nice comfortable room. Meals were good.
Perfectly located Pub in Chop Gate after a 12k hike. Just 200m from the Village hall car park and the most welcome sight after our hike. They still ask guests to wear masks in the pub and don't serve cooked meals all day, but it's a great place for a snack and refreshment.
We stopped off here for coffee & cake having walked up onto the North York Moors, to visit the Wainstones. We didn't have one, but the Sunday dinners looked fantastic. Speaking kto the diners, they tasted as good as they looked. Jealous!!
I had a lovely day at your place today. Thank you to your chef for going to his way to cook delicious food for us!! I loved the vegetarian Sunday roast with the vegan schnitzel
I have broken down on Sunday morning 7:30 - 6c and I went there, the place where closed but the kind landlord let me in made a coffee and allowed me to use there phone to call for rescue RAC, I couldn't explain how helpful they where I spent 5 hours there until my car got fix I had more of there lovely coffee and dessert and I got worm in a freezing day, I don't know what I would've done if they didn't help as there is no mobile phone coverage for 8 miles once again thank you to the landlord and his wife and all the other staff.
Lovely little pub, beer gardens have absolutely stunning views and the weather made it glorious. Was very impressed that there was German Weissbier on tap as well, takes me back a few years. Only downside was it was a bit pricey, £19 for 3 pints and 3 packs of crisps. But in the post pandemic era I guess these small pubs are desperate to recover some lost profits. We arrived to early for food as it doesn't start until 1730. Would visit again, not my round next time
