A proper old school Irish boozer in a world where all the others have been turned into bistros or craft beer houses. Great for the football. Don't live in crouch end anymore but come back for games at this pub.nGood Guinness. Tayto crisps. Lots of tvs. And a big beer garden.nGood times a plenty
 Hornseyn £5.10 GuinnessnnMcCafferty's Bar is located on the border between Crouch End and Hornsey in North London. The nearest station is Hornsey mainline, it’s a five minute walk to get here.nnThis pub started life as The Hope and Anchor built in 1851. Today, this pub is part of an independent PubCo “McCafferty's” who have fifteen pubs across Ireland, England, Spain and the UAE.nnThis is a traditionally decorated Irish pub that has a warm and welcoming local pub feel. The main bar is ‘L’ shaped, clad in dark wood panels, has a dark boarded floor and has lots of interesting Irish memorabilia. Just off the main bar is a cosy snug with a dartboard and a huge pew to watch the oche from. My favourite area was the atmospheric back room that oozed old world charm. At the rear of the pub is paved beer garden with a large screen TV.nnThe beer selection is all keg and offers a diverse selection of standard, premium and craft beers. As this is an Irish boozer, I had to try the Guinness, my pint was excellent, price point was reasonable. This is a wet-led pub, so there is no food menu available but there are plenty of Tayto’s to choose from.nnWe arrived at 11am and were the first ones through the door. We were welcomed by a friendly member of the team who was friendly and courteous. We had a lovely chat with the Guv’nor who told us all about the comings and goings of the pub and his years in the pub trade, top fella.nnThis pub has plenty to keep you entertained and hosts Live Music, DJ Nights, Live Sport including Premier League and GAA. All info is on their socials.nn@mccaffertyscrouchend was a fantastic start to our day out exploring Crouch End. The inviting setting and the warm hospitality made it really easy to settle in. The Guinness was great and not expensive and there’s plenty to keep you entertained. This was by far our favourite pub of the day, we shall return.nnℹ Info correct on visiting 17.08.24
Really loved this place and have been many times but my opinion changed on Saturday. We went for my boyfriend’s birthday and brought our dog he’s been many times before. We were advised that he had to sit outside the back which was completely fine. Then the closed the outside part not the garden part which has sign posted warnings and was already shut - the outdoor part that’s sheltered that has no signs of time closure. They had just served me a fresh pint knowing I had a dog by the way as they had come over to me originally saying I needed to bring him outside and then told me that me, my dog and my fresh pint needed to get out as dogs aren’t allowed outside. They then acted so surprised, rude and pissed off that I asked for a refund for my pint since I wasn’t allowed to drink my drink as I had to leave with my dog ?? As I said I have absolutely no problem with let policies and will always respect them, but sort this mess out. Serving drinks to people outside with dogs and then shutting the outside area with no notice is crazy
Good Guinness, good for sports, and some of the bar staff are great. However and unfortunately, service at the bar clearly isn’t first come, first served and if you’re a man you’ll probably get served first.nnWho I assume is the manager not in shirt uniform is unnecessarily rude, abrupt and dismissive, not just to customers but to her own staff. The way she looks down on them and eyeballs them in front of people is uncomfortable and unprofessional.nnAdd in a few openly sexist, rowdy regulars “lads” zooming in on OnlyFans photos at the bar and the atmosphere quickly becomes unpleasant. It’s a shame, because the pub itself is good, but the management leaves a bad taste. Im an avid pub-goer, and I’m well aware that regulars help keep a pub running, but that shouldn’t come at the expense of treating other customers fairly.nnI do like the pub and will probably return, but the management could definitely do with a shake-up and/or training, especially in etiquette.
