I discovered this place around Guy Fawkes night and it’s easily one of the best pubs in North London. I live in South London but I travel all the way to North London just for this pub. The staff, food, beer selection, and atmosphere are all great. I highly recommend trying their burgers. They also have a lovely beer garden which is perfect for the summer. Special thanks to Poppy and Charlie for their excellent service.
The Great Northern Railway Tavern - what an attractive pub!nnIf you can trek all the way to Haringey it's worth a visit. It's full of features, many old like the coloured glass windows over a piano and the beautiful facade, outdoor metalwork and ceilings.nnAltogether this is a good looking place, another well looked after Fullers pub.nnIndoors the pub's broadly spread over three areas, each different in appearance to the last. There's also a large beer garden.nnI wonder though what this pub was like when it was built in 1897? There's a whole lot of railway just over the road, including engine sheds built in 1866, 1899 amd 1973, so it's name is very apt. Imagine the crews and workers piling in for beers, the chatter and the relief of a pint? Or the travelling classes refreshing themselves between trains? It feels a whole lot more genteel, if a little less exuberant now in its grade II listed form.nnAs always, Camra's London Pubs Group describes the place in more detail than I ever could. Look up their review, it's well worth a read.
Absolutely delicious. The potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The gravy was rich and full of flavour, and the beef was so tender I cut it with a butter knife. The Yorkshire pudding was huge yet wonderfully light, and the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection.nFor dessert, the BBQ pineapple with coconut ice cream was the perfect finish.nA genuinely outstanding meal. I'd happily eat here every day.
We visited yesterday for father's day. Let me start by saying that we usually avoid eating out those days as we know service can be busy in general. We were sooo positively surprised. We had the best time! Food was amazing Sunday roast and we had the most helpful and friendliest waiter Sarah. Would really recommend it. We also found the pub extremely child friendly.nThank you for a memorable lunch
Sad to be disappointed!nnI had this pub on my radar for a long time before my first visit: it really looks exquisite and there seems to be a lot going on in terms of events, live music, etc. They also have a beer garden at the back.nnOn my first visit, I ordered a virgin Bloody Mary and it really wasn't good - I appreciate a Bloody Mary virgin, nonetheless may not be the finest drink to order anyway, but wanted to try something different terrible choice. I went in on a rainy day and there were only a few people inside, it was nice and quiet.nnDecided to go back for food, I visited another time and although it was a weekday, the pub got quite full quite quickly and they were playing some loud music in a room at the back - it looks like a function or some sort of partying was ongoing - which would have been fine if it wasn't that the doors of the room were wide open, making it really hard to even talk to one another despite being on the opposite side of the pub. I went for a dinner with friends and came back with a sore throat.nnTo be able to order at the counter, I had to wait 15 minutes and even then, not all mains were available. Servers were OK friendly.nThe worst part is that food was really expensive for what it was - I do not recommend the £20+ fish and chips, any fish from your supermarket aisles surely tastes better, chips were nice instead - and absolutely not anything I'd want to go back for any time soon.nnAs others said, the potential of this place is limitless but sadly untapped. It's a historical pub with an ambience that any establishment would envy. If only they improved the food and the speed of the service, it would be a real gem.nWe're all eagerly awaiting these improvements!nnGreat place however to just grab a pint and have a chat on a quiet day.
