Stopped here for lunch. Fabulous! Friendly and helpful staff running a pet friendly pub. I had the 8oz beef burger, chips and a Thatchers zero cider £18:50. There was a short wait but clearly the meal was freshly cooked and, as you can see from the photo's excellent quantity and superb quality. The burger was one of the tenderest I have eaten for a while. Waiting in the garden was not a hardship and, for sure, I will be back.
Emma and her team are fantastic with a nothing too much trouble attitude, my family and I have visited many times and its always been faultless. Also has a wonderful play area for children. Don't forget to book at busy times to avoid disappointment.
Stayed just around the corner from here so popped on for some lunch on a Friday. Staff were attentive and helped us find a table as we had our dogs with us. They then took our drink orders quickly and followed with the food. Both drink and food were good and the pub is a lovely place to have some food.

We dined in the evening and we were extremely impressed with the quality and value of the food. Staff were very pleasant and we highly recommend you try the Golden Lion. Many thanks to the very talented chef and team in the kitchen, as well as the front of house for making our evening very memorable.
The menu had slightly limited variety but this was the only drawback. Not a chain pub & all the better for it. Good portions, not fancy but excellently cooked. Lovely home made coleslaw, tartare etc which really added to the quality of the meal. Extremely good value for money. Service at table genuinely wanted you to enjoy food & experience there. Very attentive to cater for dietary needs & to manage all allergies. We will most definitely return & eat here. Tip for the Chef, extend the Roast Carvery beyond 5pm, into the evening as again this is an excellent menu option. Of note, they are about to begin to offer accommodation. If service & value is anything like it's restaurant, this will be an attractive proposition, especially being so close to the University for visitors staying over. Vegetarian options: Catered options & adapted menu both for Vegans & Vegetarians Kid-friendliness: Most definitely a family based pub restaurant but this would not detract from experience of diners without children. Parking: More than enough parking on site to support the bar & restaurant Dietary restrictions: As said very attentive to allergy issues. We came as we have gluten issues & menu clearly marked for same. Nuts & lactose also addressed
Went for a family meal a few weeks ago. The Sunday roast was amazing. It's definitely the best I've had! Highly recommend!! Will be going back again soon. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The pub was very clean. Atmosphere was cozy what more could you want.Food: 5/5
The food was great! The portions are huge!! I would definitely recommend the food here as it’s cooked fresh, it takes a while to be cooked but it’s definitely worth it so please be patient with the staff as they’re all absolutely lovely and very helpful. Definitely a plus that it’s dog friendly. Definitely recommend

lovely setting, with a camping site attached. Good selection on food and drink, I highly recommend the steak pie.
